About The Position

WECTEC Staffing Services is hiring a contract Electrical Engineer to lead technical evaluation, design, and implementation of nuclear plant uprate initiatives intended to increase generation capacity safely and improve operational efficiency. The role calls for expertise in system performance, electrical engineering analysis, instrumentation and control, power system modeling, and instrumentation calculations, with work performed remotely in the United States. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents located in the United States. The position reports to the Manager of Operating Plants Electrical Engineering. The engineer will lead plant uprate engineering efforts and serve as a technical authority on uprate strategies, system impacts, instrumentation applications, and calculations. Responsibilities include evaluating plant systems across disciplines, developing and reviewing engineering analyses and design modifications, supporting project execution, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and project objectives. The engineer will also support licensing activities and maintain auditable engineering documentation. The role requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline and 8–15 years of relevant power generation or heavy-industry experience, including nuclear industry experience with EPU, MUR, or similar uprates. The position is identified as a contract role. Compensation is estimated at $85 to $100 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and skills. Benefits for most qualifying positions include comprehensive health and income protection benefits, a 401(k) savings plan, and paid vacations for qualifying positions.

Requirements

  • Experience with power system analysis and ETAP modeling.
  • Experience with instrumentation calculations and transmitter applications.
  • Knowledge of plant electrical and instrumentation and control systems.
  • Technical leadership experience on complex engineering projects.
  • Expertise in instrument uncertainty, setpoint methodologies, and flow measurement.
  • Familiarity with control systems and process automation platforms.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and location in the United States.
  • Ability to work remotely in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain one.
  • Experience with plant uprates or major capacity increases.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering efforts for plant uprate projects, including feasibility studies, system evaluations, and detailed design.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority on uprate strategies, methodologies, and system impacts.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship across electrical and instrumentation engineering disciplines.
  • Perform and review instrumentation calculations, including transmitter sizing and selection, measurement range and turndown analysis, scaling and uncertainty analysis, loop accuracy, and environmental and operating condition evaluations.
  • Review transmitter applications and installations for sensing technology selection, material compatibility, process connections, response time, dynamic performance, and compliance with design codes and plant standards.
  • Evaluate and validate flow measurement calculations, including differential-pressure device sizing, beta ratio selection, flow coefficients, Reynolds number considerations, and the effects of increased flow on accuracy and pressure loss.
  • Review and approve instrument setpoint and scaling changes for uprate operation, including margin to design limits and compliance with safety analyses, protective system requirements, and licensing bases.
  • Support control system impact evaluations, identify needed tuning or control strategy adjustments, and assess instrument loop response, stability, control logic, and plant automation interactions.
  • Oversee instrumentation documentation, including data sheets, loop and wiring diagrams, calibration procedures, maintenance requirements, design change packages, and calculation packages.
  • Develop and review engineering calculations, analyses, and design modifications.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and risk management while helping meet scope, schedule, and budget objectives.
