About The Position

Summer Consultants is seeking a recent graduate or early-career Electrical Engineer with up to three years of experience to join their McLean, VA team. This role offers a strong opportunity for individuals curious about building systems, seeking hands-on project experience, and eager to learn the MEP/FP consulting industry from experienced engineers. The work primarily involves renovations, with a focus on MEP/FP systems within existing buildings, presenting interesting, technical, and challenging problems. Renovation projects require engineers to address real-world constraints such as fitting equipment, designing around existing conditions, and considering contractor buildability. Summer Consultants prides itself on serving client missions diligently, working with government, institutional, and educational clients. The role offers the chance to work on diverse facilities and gain historical insights, particularly given the company's Northern Virginia headquarters and strong federal/institutional client base.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Architectural Engineering with an electrical or lighting focus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
• Ability to support day-long field surveys outdoors and indoors, including conditioned and unconditioned spaces, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Field work may include walking up to 10,000–20,000 steps in a day, climbing up and down a 6-foot ladder, kneeling, squatting, and bending.
• Ability to obtain site access at client locations, including federal facilities, as required by project assignments.

Nice To Haves

• AutoCAD and Revit experience preferred.
• Pursue EIT, if not already completed.

Responsibilities

• Support electrical design for building systems projects.
• Assist with field surveys, existing-conditions documentation, calculations, layouts, and design coordination.
• Contribute to lighting and power design, including AGI lighting calculations, power calculations, and system layouts.
• Help solve client problems with curiosity, precision, and follow-through.
• Build the technical foundation needed to grow as a consulting engineer.
