About The Position

Exponent is seeking an Electrical Engineer with a background in energy systems for its Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Practice in Houston, TX. In this role, you will work as part of a team to combine electrical engineering principles and a range of investigative analysis techniques with robust subject-specific scientific expertise, to implement high-value solutions to complex technical problems. You will have the opportunity to apply your technical expertise across a wide cross-section of industry and will interact with a variety of client contacts ranging from managers, engineers, legal staff, and business leaders. You will be expected to demonstrate continued professional growth, both in technical areas relevant to your expertise, and in business skills essential to providing effective consulting services.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or an M.S. with 3 years of relevant industry experience in Electrical Engineering after completion of the M.S. degree
  • Hands-on experience or a technical background in energy and power systems
  • Technical background in batteries and energy storage, power generation and distribution, wind and solar
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to gather information and convey technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, business, and related industries
  • Ability to support multiple group projects and market the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Practice and its consulting services
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in incident investigation in the context of failures and fires a plus

Responsibilities

  • Performing electrical engineering analyses consulting related to ongoing Exponent work
  • Preparing technical proposals, pursuing business development opportunities, and performing technical analysis related to energy systems, as well as interacting with managers, engineers, and non-technical staff
  • Risk analysis, design analysis, experimental testing for performance, reliability, and risk prediction
  • Failure analysis of electrical equipment and products
  • Critically assessing test results, methods of analysis and testing protocols, generating new testing protocols based on new product designs, maintaining a systematic approach to data collection and storage, and report writing
