Intuitive•Sunnyvale, CA
•$117,800 - $199,400•Onsite

About The Position

As an Electrical Engineer in Intuitive’s Future Forward group, you will help improve and extend robotic product lines by developing innovative electronics for robotic-assisted surgical systems. You will work cross-functionally to design, implement, and test complex mixed-signal printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), integrate them into complete surgical robot solutions, and support them through human use and product release. The role requires familiarity with mixed-signal PCBA design and integration, board- and system-level troubleshooting, and medical-device development processes. A quick-learning approach, an ability to understand user and engineering requirements, and a strong sense of shared responsibility are important.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an adjacent technical field with at least 4 years of experience; alternatively, a master’s degree with at least 3 years of experience, or a PhD with at least 2 years of experience.
  • At least 4 years of focused, hands-on mixed-signal board-level design experience, from architecture through production.
  • Experience with mixed-signal PCB design, embedded system design, and PCBA design for harsh environments.
  • Strong foundations in analog, digital, high-speed and signal-integrity concepts, MPSoCs, FPGAs, MCUs, and DC/DC power converters.
  • Hardware development experience in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.
  • Familiarity with product development lifecycle phases, including design, implementation, debugging, verification, qualification, and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Hands-on engineering skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Understanding of component selection criteria and design for reliability and manufacturability.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills across organizational levels.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with software and FPGA teams on architecture definition, processor/FPGA selection, and interface definition.

Nice To Haves

  • Hardware development experience with medical surgical or therapeutic products.
  • Experience with OrCAD for schematic design.

Responsibilities

  • Design or modify PCBAs, including contributing to electrical architecture, selecting components, designing schematics, performing component placement, defining stack-ups, and overseeing PCB layout.
  • Coordinate with contract manufacturers to ensure timely delivery of prototype and production PCBAs.
  • Bring up and debug prototypes, collaborating with embedded software teams to test board functions.
  • Represent Electrical Engineering on cross-functional teams developing next-generation robotic surgery products.
  • Select appropriate methods to meet product requirements and incorporate them into effective designs.
  • Develop, implement, test, and document solutions that meet clinical, statutory, and environmental requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise to resolve design, field, and manufacturing issues.
  • Develop prototypes to support future product development.
  • Provide electrical engineering technical support to other stakeholders.
  • Support quality and regulatory processes.
  • Ensure medical-device designs meet product quality and safety requirements and comply with design control processes in the Quality Management System.

Benefits

  • Market-competitive compensation package including base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity.
