About The Position

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Forward Deployed Electrical Engineer to bring its autonomous maritime technology from the lab to the fleet. This hands-on, field-oriented role integrates electrical payloads, troubleshoots system-level issues, and iterates hardware designs in support of maritime missions. Work is split among the lab, fabrication spaces, and waterfront.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience working on integrated electrical/electromechanical systems.
  • Hands-on expertise in electrical integration, including power systems, cabling, connectors, and PCB bring-up.
  • Hands-on expertise in rapid prototyping and system-level debugging.
  • Comfort using basic electrical test equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes, and field integration setups.
  • Experience with a Linux-based operating system.
  • Experience with serial communications such as RS-232 and RS-485, and CANbus.
  • Understanding of networking protocols and distributed systems, including TCP/IP, UDP, and message-passing frameworks.
  • Willingness to work in dynamic, hands-on environments, including on and near the water.
  • Strong sense of ownership and bias for action, with the ability to solve open-ended problems in real-world environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience working in fielded or mission-critical environments.
  • Experience with autonomous systems, drones, or other robotic platforms.

  • Ability to write basic software tools, such as Python or shell scripts, for hardware bring-up or test automation.
  • Exposure to ruggedized or IP-rated hardware design.
  • Experience in systems integration or test engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Design systems for electrical integration of novel systems and payloads onto Autonomous Service Vessels (ASVs) and other maritime platforms.
  • Lead rapid electrical prototyping for field experimentation and platform evolution.
  • Bring up, integrate, and troubleshoot power, networking, sensor, and compute subsystems; understand system topologies and balance power budgets, thermal constraints, and signal integrity.
  • Own dockside and sea trials, including vessel preparation, installation of electrical hardware packages, and system validation in operationally relevant environments.
  • Provide design-for-assembly and design-for-deployment feedback to electrical product development.
  • Work with Mechanical, Software, and Autonomy Engineers to evolve and harden system designs.
  • Interface with suppliers and fabrication shops to support fast turnaround of custom components and harnesses.
