About The Position

Bala Consulting Engineers is seeking a mid-level Electrical Engineer to join our Boston, MA office. This role will support the function enterprise-wide. Bala is a dynamic, growth-oriented engineering firm with offices across the East Coast, known for its collaborative culture and commitment to employee development. We specialize in innovative designs for a variety of facilities including High Rise, Mission Critical, Multi-Unit Housing, Commercial Office, Higher Education, Transportation, Adaptive Reuse, and Life Science facilities.

Requirements

  • 3 to 6 years of experience in designing electrical power distribution infrastructure, fire alarm systems, lighting systems, both interior and exterior, and lighting controls.
  • Knowledge should include familiarity with short circuit, arc flash coordination, design of interior and exterior lighting, and photometric calculations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of applicable codes including energy conservation.
  • Proficiency with Revit design software with at least 1 year experience of formal design use.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in commercial and healthcare facilities strongly preferred.
  • PE or EIT certification preferred.
  • LEED accreditation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare calculations for feeders, services, short circuit, transformer size.
  • Design building electrical distribution, fire alarm and security systems.
  • Perform on-site surveys of existing electrical equipment.
  • Determine schedules and details required for the project. Review with project engineer.
  • Attend job meetings as required.
  • Ensure flow of information between disciplines.
  • Assist in writing of reports and feasibility studies.
  • Support developing electrical standards.
  • Prepare cost estimates and specifications.
