About The Position

This DoD SkillBridge Internship for an Electrical Engineer, hosted by APTIM Federal Services through Vets2PM LLC, is located in Niskayuna, New York. The role supports Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) efforts at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory Kesselring Site. The Electrical Engineer of Radiological Work (ERW) will collaborate with Operations, Radiological Controls, and EH&S personnel to create detailed work procedures and facility deactivation plans for radiological D&D activities. ERWs will receive training and must maintain strict qualifications to perform this work safely and efficiently, assessing conditions and determining the best methods to meet all program and local requirements.

Requirements

  • Active-duty U.S. Military Members who qualify for the DoD SkillBridge Program
  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or Science
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Nuclear, Construction, Demolition or Remediation fields
  • US Citizenship is required: no dual citizenship
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Adaptation to culture focusing on Safety and Health
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Level L Security Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain radiological qualifications

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience
  • Radiological, environmental and electrical engineering experience
  • Autocad Inventor experience

Responsibilities

  • Developing and authoring technical work documents and facility electrical deactivation plans for the company's specialized workforce to safely and efficiently perform radiological and other hazardous remediation
  • Participating in work scoping to understand site conditions, work to be performed, and end state
  • Participating in developing project schedules
  • Developing technical specifications for subcontracted work
  • Developing facility characterization plans
  • Overseeing and examining production/subcontractor work
  • Ensuring the organization complies with all current safety regulations by being aware of federal, state and local safety laws
  • Developing Project Closeout and Release Reports
