About The Position

Join us as a Electrical Engineer Power Systems on our Concept Engineering team in Hopkinton, MA or Round Rock, TX to do the best work of your career and make a profound social impact. Dell’s Concept Engineering organization is responsible for exploring the boundaries of next‑generation datacenter and AI server architectures. Our cross‑functional team develops early‑phase designs, proof‑of‑concept systems, and technology demonstrations that influence Dell’s long-term product strategy. We work at the intersection of electrical, mechanical, thermal, and system architecture to define what comes next.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 10+ years of experience in high‑power electrical system design across EV power paths, industrial/UPS systems, or high‑current DC/HV distribution
  • Expertise in designing high‑current DC bus bars, power shelves, and high‑power distribution assemblies
  • Strong experience with high‑current PCB design, including heavy‑copper layouts, embedded bus bars, and >100 Amps trace design
  • Deep understanding of UL/IEC safety standards, creepage/clearance requirements, and power‑system protection principles
  • Strong cross‑functional communication skills with the ability to operate effectively in early‑concept, ambiguous design environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with rack‑scale or server‑level power architectures, AI server design constraints (thermal, mechanical, interconnect), and hands‑on work such as rapid prototyping, custom bus‑bar fabrication, or HV system bring‑up
  • Strong proficiency with simulation tools, including multiphysics solvers (Ansys, COMSOL), SPICE/PLECS for power‑system modeling, and thermal‑analysis tools for high‑current conductors

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, architecture, and analysis of high‑current, low‑voltage DC power‑distribution systems (1 kW–100 kW+) for AI server and rack‑scale platforms, including bus bars, high‑power PCBAs, and early‑phase power‑delivery concepts
  • Develop rack‑level power‑delivery components such as power shelves and battery interfaces, creating system‑level topologies focused on safety, thermal performance, and electrical integrity
  • Perform advanced simulations for current density, thermal behavior, electromagnetic/inductive/resistive effects, isolation/creepage/clearance, and EMI/EMC in high‑current applications
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with mechanical, thermal, and architecture teams to deliver manufacturable, scalable designs and support rapid prototyping, bring‑up, and early validation
  • Document designs, drive trade studies, stay current on materials/connector technologies, and contribute to product strategy for next‑generation AI server power‑delivery platforms
