Requirements

  • 10 years or more professional experience in electrical power systems studies working for Consulting Engineering firm in design of industrial plants
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Member in good standing with the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Quebec.
  • Travel to client job sites to gather information and participating in design review meetings
  • Experience working at job sites to supervise the electrical installations. Participate in electrical check-outs and start-ups.
  • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent knowledge with digital power system modeling software using ETAP and EASYPOWER.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and ability to work independently, make decisions, and take responsibility for technical matters
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools
  • Have excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Solid understanding of industrial electrical distribution equipment, MV and LV switchgears, indoor and outdoor unit substations, transformers, HV substation equipment, MCC’s, VFD’s, motors UPS’s, capacitor banks, harmonic filters, sort-starters, overhead lines.
  • Knowledge, interpretation, and application of Canadian Electrical Code, National Electrical Code, and applicable electrical standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)

Nice To Haves

  • Membership with other professional engineering associations would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of SKM Power Tools would be an asset.
  • Basic working knowledge of AUTOCAD 2D & AUTOCAD PLANT 3D modelling would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Power system studies including but not limited to: Load flow, Short Circuit, relay settings and protection coordination, Arc Flash, harmonic evaluations, ground grid sizing and motor starting analyses, etc.
  • Review and create power system simulations, reports and studies, recommendations
  • Possess very good knowledge and experience in developing single line diagrams, metering and protection diagrams, underground and above ground power cabling, grounding plans and details, MV & LV MCC layouts, cable schedules, control and annunciator panel schematics, motor power and control schematics, termination list, interconnection wiring diagrams, UPS and emergency back-up systems.
  • Perform high, medium and low voltage cable sizing based on ampacity, de-rating factors and voltage drop calculations,
  • Write specifications for power distribution equipment, perform Bid Analysis of quotations from electrical equipment suppliers, and write recommendations to purchase.
  • Review and make comments to shop drawings from equipment Vendors.
  • Approve and P.Eng seal electrical drawings for candidates under supervision.
  • Perform electrical calculations
  • Assist with physical layout drawings of electrical rooms, transformer rooms, outdoor substations
  • Coordinate design with other engineering disciplines for successful project completions
  • Execute technical project work within your area of expertise. Majority of time will be used for the concept and detailed engineering design.
  • Possess good time management skills as the candidate will frequently be required to work on multiple projects and tasks at the same time.
  • Approve and stamp P. Eng. Seal documents and drawings, including substation layouts, electrical study reports, connections and wiring diagrams, single line electrical diagrams, etc.
  • Prepare and submit connection applications and associated design documents to Power Utility companies.
  • Participate in site visits for project kickoffs, site meetings, and Powe Utility company representatives as required
  • Participate in the equipment selection and procurement process
  • Application of standards, codes and regulations to the area of expertise and ensuring compliance.
  • Incorporation of safety and risk analysis into equipment designs
  • Write and review technical reports, and construction specifications.
