About The Position

CANUSA EPC is a growing, mid-sized EPC firm delivering complex energy and infrastructure projects across Canada and the United States. Our current and upcoming portfolio includes CO₂ capture, natural gas processing, compression, helium recovery, and low-carbon power generation projects—and we're looking for an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to lead and continue developing our electrical engineering team in Calgary. This is a hands-on engineering leadership role with responsibility for both the people and technical performance of the electrical group. You'll lead and develop engineers and designers, manage resources across projects, establish engineering standards, oversee quality and budgets, and serve as a senior electrical technical authority for our clients and multidisciplinary project teams. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized/accredited engineering program.
  • Approximately 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience within oil & gas, natural gas processing, power generation, petrochemical, industrial energy, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, or managing engineers and/or designers.
  • Strong industrial electrical engineering and power distribution experience.
  • Experience managing technical deliverables, engineering resources, project priorities, and schedules.
  • Strong understanding of hazardous-location electrical design.
  • Working knowledge of applicable Canadian electrical codes and standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code (CSA C22.1) and other applicable CSA, IEEE, and industry standards.
  • Strong technical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work directly and confidently with clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration with APEGA strongly preferred.
  • Candidates who are currently eligible for registration with APEGA and able to obtain their P.Eng. within a reasonable timeframe are also encouraged to apply.
  • Existing U.S. Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration or eligibility to pursue U.S. registration is considered an asset.
  • Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada and able to travel to project locations as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as an Electrical Engineering Manager, Discipline Manager, Electrical Lead, or Principal/Senior Electrical Engineer.
  • EPC or engineering consulting experience.
  • Alberta oil & gas or natural gas processing experience.

  • Familiarity with U.S. NEC/NFPA 70 requirements.
  • Experience supporting construction, commissioning, startup, or troubleshooting activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Electrical Engineers and Designers.
  • Manage department staffing, workload, priorities, and resource allocation across multiple projects.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding electrical team members.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support individual career and professional development.
  • Identify current and future staffing requirements based on project demands.
  • Establish expectations for technical quality, accountability, communication, and project execution.
  • Promote collaboration and technical knowledge sharing across the department.
  • Work with senior leadership to support the continued growth and development of the electrical engineering group.
  • Serve as a senior electrical technical authority for CANUSA EPC projects.
  • Establish and maintain electrical engineering standards, specifications, procedures, templates, and design tools.
  • Oversee electrical engineering quality and consistency across projects.
  • Lead and review complex electrical designs and calculations.
  • Provide technical review of critical electrical engineering deliverables.
  • Lead or review power system studies including: Load flow, Short-circuit, Protective device coordination, Arc-flash, Motor starting, Harmonic analysis.
  • Oversee the design and specification of: MV and LV power distribution systems, Substations, Transformers, Switchgear and MCCs, Large motors and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Emergency and standby generation, Grounding systems, Electrical heat-tracing systems.
  • Provide technical leadership for hazardous-location electrical design.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable Canadian codes, client requirements, and CANUSA EPC engineering and quality standards.
  • Manage electrical engineering man-hour budgets, schedules, deliverables, and resource forecasts.
  • Monitor project performance and proactively identify scope, schedule, resource, or budget concerns.
  • Coordinate electrical resources across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to establish project scope, schedules, staffing plans, and engineering estimates.
  • Support proposals, project estimates, and business development activities.
  • Evaluate electrical scope changes and associated impacts to project cost and schedule.
  • Support equipment procurement and technical bid evaluations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design, constructability, and quality reviews.
  • Support field engineering, construction, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities as required.
  • Serve as a client-facing electrical engineering leader.
  • Develop strong working relationships with client engineering, operations, and project teams.
  • Lead electrical discussions during client, project, and vendor meetings.
  • Communicate technical recommendations clearly and confidently.
  • Help resolve complex engineering and project execution challenges.
  • Represent CANUSA EPC's electrical engineering capabilities during proposals and business development discussions.
