About The Position

AECOM is seeking an Electrical Engineer III to join our Traffic Engineering Design/ITS Group. This is an exciting opportunity in an intermediate-level position to work on a variety of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and lighting design projects for city, state, and private sector clients. As part of our dynamic team, you will be involved in ITS systems engineering and electrical design projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus 4 years of relevant experience in Electrical Design or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • NY and NJ PE, or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Proficient in design software including AutoCAD and MicroStation
  • Experienced in application of the National Electrical Safety Code
  • Working knowledge of NFPA and IEEE Regulatory Codes

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Experienced in lighting calculations using Visual Software.
  • Experience in ITS, traffic signal, or lighting design
  • Strong communication, technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior electrical team members.

Responsibilities

  • Complete electrical design for Roadway and highway construction projects.
  • Prepare Highway, roadway, and intersection lighting design, including photometric analysis, circuiting, electrical load calculations, and load centers.
  • Design of fiber optic and wireless communication systems, including network architecture, systems engineering, conduit layouts, and power distribution for ITS devices.
  • Perform traffic signal system design, including electrical wiring, conduit layouts, power distribution, and interconnection of traffic controllers, signal heads, and detection systems.
  • Prepare ITS infrastructure design, including layout and electrical design for dynamic message signs (DMS), closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, vehicle detection systems, and roadside communication devices.
  • Preparing design plans using AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Perform and prepare electrical load calculations, wiring diagrams, and panel schedules for traffic signal, ITS, and lighting systems design with minimum oversight.
  • Prepare technical specification sections.
  • Conduct grounding analysis and design.
  • Coordinate design schedule with other disciplines within the project team.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and design data for permanent project files.
  • Attend project meetings and delegates activities as needed.
  • Meet with clients and participate in technical seminars while maintaining good client relations.
