About The Position

Hinge Health is seeking an Electrical Engineer II for its Hardware Engineering team. This junior-to-mid-level role contributes to development and sustaining work for connected hardware products, including board-level designs for highly integrated medical devices from schematic through layout and assembly. The engineer works cross-functionally with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to bring products from concept through production, and supports products after launch. The role includes embedded-system electrical design, component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, detailed design, testing, verification, production preparation, and documentation of design decisions and test results. The engineer will also contribute to manufacturing and sustaining engineering through test or process development, design-for-manufacturing improvements, component-level failure analysis, and design changes that may improve cost or manufacturability. During the first three months, the engineer is expected to learn the hardware products, electrical design practices, product development process, and manufacturing needs, and contribute to embedded-system design. Within six months, the engineer will partner on system architecture and integration and participate in prototyping, detailed design, testing, and production preparation. Within the first year, the engineer will drive board-level design work across development and support manufacturing and sustaining activities. The role is part of a small, motivated Hardware Engineering team within R&D. Hinge Health uses technology to scale healthcare, starting with musculoskeletal conditions, and provides care across MSK, pelvic health, gastrointestinal, and migraine care.

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in hardware development or embedded-systems design.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout for multilayer boards.
  • Hands-on experience with board bring-up, debugging, and rework on high-density designs.
  • Experience designing microcontroller-based systems, such as ARM Cortex-M or MSP430.
  • Experience using standard digital interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, or USB.
  • Proficiency with common lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, power supplies, and soldering or hot-air rework equipment.
  • A hands-on approach to turning product needs into reliable embedded hardware.
  • A learning mindset, openness to feedback, and continued development of technical knowledge.
  • Accountability, communication of progress and risks, and follow-through on commitments.
  • Ability to work across disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Altium Designer.
  • Experience with battery management, Bluetooth Low Energy, high-voltage circuits, or analog design.
  • Experience developing medical devices or products in another regulated industry, such as aerospace or automotive.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC practices and certification processes such as FCC, CE, or UL.
  • Basic proficiency in Python for test automation or C/C++ for firmware changes that support bring-up and testing.
  • Experience transitioning designs to manufacturing and applying design-for-manufacturing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to embedded-system electrical design, including component selection, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
  • Drive board-level design work from exploration and prototyping through verification and production ramp.
  • Partner with mechanical, firmware, and senior electrical engineers on system architecture and integration.
  • Participate in prototyping, detailed design, testing, and preparation for production.
  • Document design decisions and test results to support product quality and applicable medical-device requirements.
  • Support manufacturing and sustaining engineering through test or process development, design-for-manufacturing improvements, and component-level failure analysis.
  • Support products after launch and identify design changes that can improve cost or manufacturability.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Support for gender-affirming care, family and fertility planning, and travel reimbursement when healthcare is unavailable where the employee lives.
  • Traditional or Roth 401(k) options with a 2% company match.
  • Learning and development stipends.
  • Discounted company stock through an employee stock purchase plan with payroll deductions.
