Electrical Engineer II - LiquidPiston

LiquidPiston•Suffield, CT
•Onsite

About The Position

LiquidPiston is developing advanced rotary engine technology for aerospace, defense, and power generation in a fast-paced R&D environment, taking concepts from initial design through prototyping, testing, and development. The Electrical Engineer II supports the design, development, fabrication, and testing of electrical systems and electronic hardware for next-generation engines and power systems. This is a hands-on role involving analog and digital circuit design, PCB development, electrical troubleshooting, prototype fabrication, hardware debugging, and testing. The engineer works independently on designs and collaborates with engineers and technicians across disciplines. The position is onsite five days per week in Bloomfield, Connecticut, with a planned relocation to Suffield, Connecticut.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design and analysis.
  • Proficiency in electrical schematic generation, PCB design, BOM creation, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with PCB design software such as OrCAD, Altium Designer, or similar tools.
  • Hands-on electrical troubleshooting experience using laboratory equipment, including power supplies, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Experience soldering through-hole and surface-mount electronic components.
  • Familiarity with soldering irons, hot-air soldering stations, and PCB preheaters.
  • General understanding of electrical controls and integration of servos, analog and digital sensors, thermocouples, and related components.
  • Ability to independently perform electrical design work and troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to participate directly in fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and testing activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze analog and digital circuits for electrical and electronic systems.
  • Develop electrical schematics, bills of materials, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Design and develop printed circuit boards using OrCAD, Altium Designer, or similar software.
  • Troubleshoot and debug electrical systems using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Assemble, modify, and repair electronic hardware, including prototype fabrication, wire harnessing, and electrical subassemblies.
  • Perform soldering and PCB rework on surface-mount and through-hole components.
  • Integrate electrical components and control systems, including servos, analog and digital sensors, and thermocouples.
  • Support electrical system integration with mechanical assemblies and engine test equipment.
  • Assist with prototype testing, including test setup, equipment configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and execute test plans, collect test data, and analyze results to identify potential improvements.
  • Investigate electrical hardware failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and test engineers throughout design and development.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and communicate technical findings to the team.
  • Take ownership of assigned engineering projects while supporting fabrication and testing activities as needed.

Benefits

  • Paid time off to support work–life balance.
  • Comprehensive medical coverage and voluntary dental and vision coverage.
  • Employees may receive restricted stock units (RSUs).
  • 401(k) match: 100% matching up to 3% of salary and 50% of contributions between 3% and 5%, after one year of employment.
