Electrical Engineer I

Firefly Aerospace•Cedar Park, TX

About The Position

Firefly Aerospace’s Interconnect team develops electrical wiring interconnect systems (EWIS) that distribute power and electrical signals within avionics hardware, instrumentation, and payloads. The Electrical Engineer works in small, collaborative groups through component and system design, manufacturing, and testing, and takes ownership of projects from design and analysis through manufacturing, testing, and final integration on launch vehicles and spacecraft. The role develops interconnect designs and supporting schematics, wire diagrams, harness routing, assembly drawings, technical documentation, and reports. It coordinates requirements and interfaces across engineering, production, and integration teams; supports design reviews; and helps establish internal standards for aerospace cable assemblies, shielding, integration, and vehicle-level implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and 1–3 years of experience in a related engineering discipline.
  • Familiarity with test equipment used to verify harness design and assembly.
  • Knowledge of harness design, fabrication, and installation standards, such as IPC/WHMA-A-620, NASA-STD-8739.4, and MSFC-SPEC-494.
  • Experience selecting connectors, backshells, wires, and other harness components.
  • Understanding of electrical grounding requirements and how to implement proper system-level grounding through wire-harness design.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well on a team, be proactive, and execute with minimal guidance.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering with 3+ years of experience, or Master of Science with 1+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate end-to-end interconnect schematics, wire diagrams, and harness assembly drawings.
  • Experience with 3D CAD design, 2D drafting, and PLM software such as Siemens NX, Capital, and Teamcenter.
  • Hands-on experience with harness assembly and shielding integration.
  • Understanding of basic subsystems of a space-rated vehicle and how avionics interface with each system.
  • Experience working with instrumentation and high-speed digital communication protocols.
  • Hands-on experience integrating electronics and harnessing in airborne vehicles.
  • Knowledge of range safety, flight termination, and tracking-system requirements such as RCC 319, RCC 324, and AFSPCMAN 91-710.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate electrical wiring interconnect system (EWIS) designs on launch vehicles and spacecraft.
  • Understand and implement industry guidelines and requirements for wire-harness development and design.
  • Generate schematics, wire diagrams, harness 3D CAD routing, 2D assembly drawings, technical documentation, and reports for flight, qualification, and test-lab harness assemblies.
  • Coordinate requirements and interfaces between engineering disciplines, production, and integration.
  • Make development decisions based on technical merit, risk, cost, schedule, and quality assurance.
  • Support design reviews by presenting design, analysis, and test results and demonstrating that component design and manufacturing meet flight requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to develop ideas, creative designs, and continuous improvements.
  • Adapt aerospace harnessing standards and guidelines into internal design standards and requirements for cable assemblies, shielding, integration, and vehicle-level implementation.
