About The Position

Reporting to a Senior Engineer, the role of Settings & Studies Engineer is designing of protection and control schemes in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors. P&C Engineer will apply their knowledge and experience to analyze, evaluate, and create new designs and drawings and revise existing designs and drawings with guidance from senior engineering personnel, as needed.

Requirements

Familiar with Protection and Control philosophies, schemes, and standards
Working knowledge of MathCAD, Microsoft Office, Aspen Oneliner and CAPE
Excellent knowledge of modern digital protective relays in utility applications and experience calculating relay settings
Technical knowledge and understanding of electric transmission system operation, maintenance, performance, power equipment and substation design
Excellent organizational skills
Competent in basic computer skills to include Microstation, Autocad, Trane Software and Microsoft Office products
Good Knowledge of relevant legislations, standards, regulations, guides and good practise (CSA, ANSI, IEC and IEEE standards)
Familiarity with local area networks, communication schemes, platforms and protocols used to provide local and remote interrogation with substation relays, meters, fault recorders and other intelligent electronic devices (IEDs)
Knowledge of IEC61850
Familiarity in design of electrical facilities for Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sector
Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree required; or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution
Proficient in medium/high voltage power engineering in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors
Proficient ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Eligible for registration with APEGGA or ASET
Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines
Ability to navigate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks

Nice To Haves

2 – 8 years of experience in the Utilities industry is preferred but not required
Previous engineering experience in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors
Experience in construction and field installations considered an asset
Familiarity with Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) rules will be an asset

Responsibilities

Design protection and control schemes in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors
Analyze, evaluate, and create new designs and drawings and revise existing designs and drawings
Apply knowledge of components, arrangements, and standards to complete design packages for substations that include, but are not limited to, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials
Provide technical support during construction and commissioning
Manage a wide variety of issues on multiple projects simultaneously
Perform engineering tasks using computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment
