About The Position

This position is responsible for the design of residential, commercial, industrial, overhead and underground electric distribution facilities. The role involves meeting with various stakeholders, researching and acquiring necessary easements and permits, assessing load requirements, creating designs and material lists, and ensuring project completion according to specifications. The designer will also be responsible for maintaining accuracy in GIS systems, investigating customer complaints, inspecting line extensions, preparing cost estimates, and overseeing projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, the position requires the use of surveying instruments and coordination with multiple departments, while adhering to safety policies and codes.

Requirements

Associate’s Degree in a field related to electric utility distribution and power design OR HS Diploma or equivalent AND Three years of directly related work experience
Valid Texas Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Report that comply with PEC policy
Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data or processing information
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and the National Electric Safety Code requirements relevant to distribution design issues
Knowledge of mathematics.
Knowledge of the cooperatives distribution design and construction practices
Knowledge of utility service guidelines and policies
Knowledge of power system components, functions, ratings and limitations
Knowledge of roadway, security and other lighting design practices
Knowledge of Utility Center
Knowledge of specification book and the cooperative’s line extension policy
Knowledge of PEC Safety Manual
Skilled in time management
Skilled in prioritizing and managing changing priorities
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing
Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze and resolve conflict and problems

Responsibilities

Meet with members, developers and contractors, consultants, and government entities to discuss the process and procedures for supplying electric power.
Research, acquire record, prepare, and verify required overhead or URD easements.
Notarize easements as necessary per customer request.
Research to ensure customer deed information is correct and up dated.
Check ROW easements. Obtain ROW permits if called for.
Obtain road crossing permits.
Assess load requirements to size correct transformer. Notify warehouse of material/ transformer requirements.
Notify Meter shop of CT or Trans Socket requirements.
Read and interpret blue prints and specifications.
Create designs and materials lists for overhead and underground distribution facilities
Review as builds. Correct as needed.
Edit GIS to ensure accuracy and connectivity.
Draw new distribution facilities within the Global Information System
Call locates to insure equipment can be installed at location.
Request vegetation clearing or trimming from Vegetation Maintenance Department.
Investigate customer complaints. Determine problem and recommend solution(s).
Send joint use letters
Inspect Overhead and URD line extensions.
Prepare cost estimates for new line extensions and relocations.
Oversee project(s). Ensure projects are completed to specifications on time, and within budget.
Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches and plats
Utilize surveying instruments such as prisms, theodolites and measuring equipment, chain saws and assorted tools
Coordinate with right of way, construction crews, department planners and pole contacts departments
Interpret, adhere to and enforce the company safety policy, the Line Extension Policy and the National Electric Safety Code
Prepare small scale distribution design with minimal supervision
Provide proper and routine maintenance and care for assigned vehicles and tools
Operate PEC vehicle(s) for business purposes in accordance with applicable Federal, State, local law and PEC policies and procedures
Maintain driver eligibility through appropriate valid Texas Driver’s License and driving record in accordance with PEC policy
Maintain the security of confidential information
Stay abreast of advances in technology
Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
