About The Position

The Toro Company is seeking an Electrical Designer to provide technical leadership across programs, establish best practices, mentor the design community, and de-risk launches through early manufacturability and cost optimization. This role involves creating designs and design layouts for new electrical system concepts, new electrical products, or improvements to existing electrical products. The designer will prepare electrical schematics and wiring harness drawings, coordinate designs with project teams, and perform basic design calculations. They will also utilize the best available technology, support design reviews, and ensure all designed parts are manufacturable. The position requires maintaining accurate parts lists, coordinating part releases for production, and working with various engineering teams to implement changes based on customer requirements. Problem-solving for harness routing and electrical design issues, and coordinating documentation for timely implementation of changes are key responsibilities. The role also involves entering and maintaining documentation in SAP, using Arcadia for system architecture, and Creo Cabling for harness routing. Assisting manufacturing/assembly during prototype, pilot, and production phases, performing follow-up on engineering, and preparing prototypes for various reference needs are also part of the job. Documenting potential patentable ideas and staying informed of new design, manufacturing, and materials developments are expected. The Electrical Designer will be responsible as the design leader for electrical systems in various machine families or attachments, capable of working independently on problems of moderate scope. Travel to test sites, vendors, manufacturing facilities, and customers may be required, and the role may involve directing electrical technicians, associate designers, and drafters.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited technical school for design and drafting (two-year course) combined with a minimum of five years of experience in electrical or electronics design.
OR Graduate of an accredited university or college with a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering related technology (ex. Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, Manufacturing, or Design) with a minimum of three years of experience in electrical or electronics design.

Responsibilities

Create designs and design layouts for new electrical system concepts, new electrical products, or improvements to existing electrical products.
Create engineering design for new and improved electrical routings or products which meet market, safety, quality, performance, reliability, durability requirements of the customer.
Prepare electrical schematics and wiring harness drawings.
Coordinate designs with others assigned to the project to ensure integration of the design into the machine model.
Responsible for basic design calculations relating to current, voltage, power, temperature, heat buildup, bend radius and mounting locations.
Secure assistance of consultants or internal specialists, i.e. Electrical, Mechanical and/or Manufacturing engineers and vendor experts.
Use the best technology available in each and every area of design.
Support team design reviews, safety reviews and cost and manufacturing reviews.
Assure that all parts designed are manufacturable.
Maintain accurate lists of parts created.
Coordinate or help to coordinate the release of parts for production whether for prototypes or final production.
Work with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, test engineers and others to determine changes which are needed to meet customer requirements.
Solve harness routing and electrical design problems.
Coordinate the required documentation to assure that the changes are implemented on a timely basis.
Keep supervisor informed of project status and issues that may require assistance.
Enter and maintain documentation in SAP.
Use Arcadia to document the system architecture and Creo Cabling to create harness routing.
Assist manufacturing/assembly during prototype, pilot, and production.
Perform follow-up on engineering.
Prepare prototypes to assure needs are met for sales, marketing, manuals, packaging, service, manufacturing and QC reference.
Document potential patentable ideas.
Keep informed of new design, manufacturing and materials developments.
Perform miscellaneous duties as may be requested.
Responsible as the design leader in the development of the electrical system in various machine families or attachments.
Able to work independently on problems of moderate scope.
Travel to test sites, vendors, manufacturing facilities, customers and others, as required.
May give work direction to electrical technicians, associate designers, and drafters.
