Electrical Systems Engineering Intern - The Toro Company
About The Position
The 2027 Summer Internship Program at The Toro Company (TTC) offers a real-world work experience for students majoring in electrical, electronic, or computer engineering. The program runs from May 17, 2027, through August 6, 2027, and provides an opportunity to develop skills under the supervision of an electrical engineer. Interns will gain hands-on experience with various aspects of machine electrical systems, including motors, controllers, batteries, switches, and sensors, while working on individual projects. The role involves a variety of tasks such as writing specifications, performing studies, testing and validation of electrical components and software, continuous improvement of existing products, and troubleshooting component failures. Additional activities may include job shadowing, vendor visits, manufacturing plant tours, collaborating with electrical designers, and attending executive talks with senior leadership.
Requirements
- Majoring in electrical, electronic, or computer engineering from an ABET accredited university. Other engineering disciplines may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- In good academic standing.
- Entering Junior or Senior year strongly preferred.
- Hard working, energetic, and have a desire to learn, collaborate, and effectively communicate in team environments.
- Organized.
- Proficient in basic Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience reading electrical schematics and knowledge of basic electrical components.
Nice To Haves
- Additional engineering software experience is preferred.
- Experience interfacing with CANbus communication protocols preferred.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate electrical components.
- Create and perform basic integration tests in a lab environment.
- Create and modify prototype electrical harnesses.
- Work with CANbus data to diagnose issues or evaluate machine performance.
- Read and interpret machine electrical schematics to assist in troubleshooting or machine evaluation.
- Work cross functionally to diagnose machine issues or evaluate designs.
- Work with component vendors to evaluate application fit and verify component specifications.
