About The Position

The Electrical Design Engineer supports the MSFC (Marshall Space Flight Center) ES34 Electrical Design, Imaging, and Sensors team within the Space Systems Department. The role coordinates with engineers across disciplines, with a focus on electrical system design, and supports analog and controls algorithm design and implementation, initial concept development, hardware development and mission support, and project status reporting. The engineer analyzes test and performance data, develops test procedures, and conducts performance tests for printed circuit boards. The position also involves creating electrical architectures, schematics, and multilayer PCB layouts; troubleshooting hardware; supporting verification; and producing engineering drawings and design documentation. The work is performed in an office environment, includes domestic travel, and requires U.S. citizenship.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; degree from an ABET-accredited institution is required.
A minimum of five years of related experience is desired.
Design, analyze, and develop electronics, including signal conditioning, digital, and operational amplifier (op amp) designs.
Ability to translate requirements into detailed electrical architectures and block diagrams.
Ability to decompose electrical architectures into hardware design solutions.
Ability to create electrical schematic designs and multilayer PCB layouts.
Ability to troubleshoot hardware failures.
Ability to balance multiple work assignments.
Familiarity with integrating commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components into designs.
Familiarity with producing engineering drawings and design documentation, such as interface control documents and design specifications.
Familiarity with writing and executing test procedures and verifying electrical systems.
Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
Proof of U.S. citizenship is required.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and exercise good judgment.
Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and operate general office equipment.
Ability to travel domestically in the United States.

Nice To Haves

Experience with requirements development, design, hardware development, documentation, and performance testing of FPGA-based systems.
Experience using the Mentor Graphics software suite and other development tools for electronic designs and PCB layouts.
Experience designing, analyzing, and developing control algorithms and applying them in power control designs.
Experience soldering and assembling prototype PCBs.
Knowledge of space-qualified and/or harsh-environment electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) parts, including EEE parts selection and derating analysis.

Responsibilities

Coordinate with senior engineers on the design and implementation of analog and controls algorithms.

Provide periodic status updates to project and Space Systems Department management.

Produce engineering drawings and design documentation, including interface control documents and design specifications.
Write and execute test procedures and perform verification of electrical systems.
