About The Position

This is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this entry level solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills and the ability to work with greater independence. Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy. The Duke Energy Nuclear Fleet Corporate Design Engineering (CDE) department is the Design Authority for each of Duke Energy’s six nuclear sites. CDE is responsible for the execution of a fleet portfolio that includes design solutions supporting risk reduction, equipment obsolescence, and plant modernization. The Oconee Nuclear Station (ONS) CDE team manages the capital engineering change portfolio at the ONS site in Seneca, SC. The ONS CDE Electrical Team is seeking to fill the position of Electrical Design Engineer I or II.

Requirements

The incumbent must meet the minimum ANSI requirements for this position identified within the scope of Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011, Confirmation of Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications
Electrical Design Engineer I: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Electrical Design Engineer II: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience
Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience.
Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance.
This role requires the ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Passing grade on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
Interest in continued professional development and obtaining Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
Experience in the utility industry, specifically the nuclear industry.
Experience with nuclear industry standard design process.
Working level knowledge of ETAP software program.

Responsibilities

Develop the scope, technical basis, installation, and testing requirements for engineering design changes that include but are not limited to AC power systems, DC power systems, Large AC motors, Transformers, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Protective Relaying, Voltage Regulators, Breakers, etc.
Research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, determine, and present recommendations to resolve issues.
Provide ongoing support of assigned engineering design changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support activities.
Develop or revise design specifications or technical requirements documents to support engineering design changes.
Develop or revise complex engineering calculations impacted by engineering design changes.
Revise site design basis documents, design drawings, and regulatory documents impacted by engineering design changes.
