About The Position

Sense Engineering is seeking an intermediate electrical engineer or designer ready to take greater ownership of electrical building-system projects and develop project leadership and consulting skills. The role covers work from initial investigation and scope development through design, construction, and completion. Projects may involve electrical equipment and distribution assessments; lighting and lighting controls; emergency power; life-safety and fire-alarm systems; building renewals and retrofits; energy optimization; feasibility studies; and construction-phase services. Depending on experience and goals, the engineer may lead assignments, manage client relationships, develop scopes and fees, mentor junior staff, participate in proposals, and contribute to technical standards and quality processes. The role is supported by experienced professionals while offering opportunities to exercise judgment, advise clients, and contribute to the growth of Sense Engineering’s electrical practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university or college, or certification as an electrical engineering technologist.
  • Approximately 5–10 years of relevant experience in electrical building-system assessment, design, coordination, or project delivery; candidates with other experience levels may be considered if they demonstrate capability and readiness for increased responsibility.
  • Registration, or active progress toward registration, with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical and building codes, industry standards, engineering fundamentals, design practices, and quality requirements.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Experience preparing coordinated drawings, specifications, reports, and other technical deliverables for building projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a client-focused approach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while independently managing priorities, commitments, and project responsibilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, team spirit, ownership of work, and a solution-focused approach.

Nice To Haves

  • Membership with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • Experience with Revit, BIM workflows, electrical analysis software, and energy-modelling coordination.
  • Interest in mentoring others, sharing knowledge, solving problems creatively, and contributing to a growing practice.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design, modelling, and detailing for electrical building systems on construction, renewal, and retrofit projects.
  • Develop practical electrical solutions that account for client objectives, existing-building conditions, applicable codes, constructability, energy performance, reliability, and lifecycle considerations.
  • Lead projects of increasing size and complexity from scope identification through construction completion, including work planning, coordination, technical reviews, schedule management, and client communication.
  • Prepare design reports, system comparisons, feasibility studies, electrical construction documents, equipment specifications, and opinions of probable cost.
  • Conduct site surveys, electrical assessments, and field reviews to document existing conditions and check that construction generally aligns with design intent.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, mechanical, structural, civil, and other consulting disciplines.
  • Apply applicable electrical and building codes, standards, engineering principles, and internal quality requirements to project work.
  • Represent Sense Engineering in client meetings, project and site meetings, and industry events, providing responsive and professional service.
  • Provide guidance and technical oversight to junior engineers, designers, and technical staff assigned to project delivery.
  • Contribute to proposals, scope and fee development, internal knowledge sharing, technical standards, and the continued growth of the electrical practice.
  • Represent Sense Engineering professionally and build positive relationships with clients, contractors, and other consultants.
  • Develop knowledge of electrical systems design, energy modelling, life-cycle analysis, and costing, and share insights and lessons learned with the team.
  • Take ownership of work and contribute a positive attitude, strong work ethic, team spirit, and solution-focused approach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
