About The Position

An Arizona-based consulting engineering firm is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer/Engineer to contribute to projects involving complex facilities, with limited day-to-day direction. The firm provides mechanical, electrical, process piping, and I&C engineering services to industrial, high-tech, semiconductor, healthcare, and other technically demanding facilities throughout Arizona and neighboring states. This is a hands-on design role, not a desk-only position. Projects often involve existing facilities and require field investigation to understand current systems, verify conditions and constraints, and develop practical, constructable solutions in coordination with client facility teams and on-site contractors. Working primarily with a Project Manager, the engineer will support electrical projects from initial field investigation through design and construction.

Requirements

  • 10 years of electrical design or engineering experience.
  • Proven semiconductor, cleanroom, and power-distribution experience.
  • Strong design experience with power distribution and short-circuit and coordination studies.
  • Experience with complex or technically demanding facilities, such as healthcare or hospitals, industrial or manufacturing facilities, laboratories, high-tech or semiconductor facilities, central plants, or similar environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, equipment information, and system diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and industry design practices.
  • Ability and willingness to perform hands-on field investigation and develop practical designs based on verified field conditions.
  • Understanding of constructability and how electrical systems are installed, accessed, operated, and maintained.
  • Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, take ownership of assigned work, and communicate effectively with project teams, clients, contractors, and facility personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Revit and/or AutoCAD, or experience working effectively with CAD/Revit production teams.
  • Experience with semiconductor/high-tech manufacturing, healthcare/hospitals, industrial/manufacturing facilities, or renovations within occupied or operating facilities.
  • Experience coordinating electrical designs across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Electrical contracting, design-build, construction, or field-coordination experience when combined with strong design experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field investigations to verify existing equipment, utilities, system configurations, connection points, routing constraints, available space, and other conditions affecting design.
  • Review existing documentation, identify missing or questionable information, and determine what requires field verification.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs for electrical systems, equipment installations, and facility modifications.
  • Lay out and size power distribution and associated components within areas of expertise.
  • Develop construction documents that account for constructability, accessibility, maintenance, installation requirements, and existing facility constraints.
  • Review equipment and vendor information and develop calculations, sketches, and redlines as needed to support the design.
  • Coordinate with CAD/Revit designers, other engineering disciplines, clients, facility personnel, contractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in site walks, client meetings, design reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Support projects during construction, including responding to RFIs and submittals, addressing field conditions, and making design revisions.
  • Manage multiple assignments, maintain project schedules, communicate issues, and take ownership of assigned work through completion.
