About The Position

Responsible for mechanical and electrical assembly, testing, troubleshooting and modification of control systems used in automated machinery. Performs maintenance service and repairs on production equipment including preventative maintenance. Set up and programming of PLC’s, variable frequency and servo drives. Set up and programming of operator interface devices. Assembly and wiring of electrical control panels and machinery. Generation of electrical schematics and support documentation. Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical and mechanical failures on existing manufacturing equipment. Advanced industrial electrical troubleshooting tasks such as diagnosing faulty electrical components and devices. Advanced electrical controls troubleshooting and calibration of PLCs, transducers, motor starters, relays, solenoids, I/O cards, thermocouples, sensors, power supplies, transformers and other control devices. Performs advanced conveyor troubleshooting/diagnostics and repairs. Advanced hydraulic/pneumatic repairs and troubleshooting. Complex shop re-builds and equipment upgrades. Identifies opportunities for machinery improvements and optimization. Completes assigned tasks on time according to schedule. Trains/mentors new hires and less experienced technicians. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in the industrial manufacturing field or in a related area.
  • 7+ years electrical troubleshooting and system diagnostics.
  • 3+ years PLC programming and debugging.
  • Proficient in the use of test equipment such as Multi-meter, Megohmmeter, Ammeter, oscilloscope, etc.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Electro-mechanical components and their function(s) in automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Proficient in the use of automation software packages such as Direct Soft, C-More Designer, Do-More Designer, Motion Works, etc. (or a combination of other Industrial Automation Software).
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Knowledge and experience with AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of communication standards common to industrial control environments (e.g., RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, Ethernet IP).
  • Knowledge and experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and associated control devices.
  • Knowledge and experience with National Electrical Code and UL508A Standards.
  • Proficient in the use of tools and equipment common to the trade.
  • Expert electrical troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment up to 480VAC.
  • Advanced PLC, Electrical Controls, VFD, and servo systems experience.
  • Ability to read/understand electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and other technical documents.
  • Creating new electrical schematics, hydraulics/pneumatics diagrams and any other drawings related to automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of ladder logic, PLC control and programming and process control.
  • Project planning skills and abilities for making complete materials lists, component selection/specification.
  • Employs safe work practices such as lock out tag out, ladder safety, safe use of power tools, etc.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Displays attention to detail and is accurate and disciplined.
  • Must be able to follow through on all tasks and projects with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently when needed.
  • Ability to operate power tools and other shop equipment.
  • Ability to acquire forklift certification.
