Electrical CAD Designer – Custom Automation Systems
About The Position
If you are an Electrical CAD Specialist looking to escape repetitive single-product loops and sluggish corporate red tape, this direct-hire opportunity offers an agile, high-velocity engineering hub. Founded to support the surging demand for smart factory and warehouse automation, our client is a rapidly expanding integration partner that has doubled its revenue annually and recently launched a modern 6,000 sq. ft. UL panel production facility. This organization thrives on technical variety and fast execution. Rather than working on stagnant, templated projects, you will engineer detailed drawing packages for custom multi-axis robotic cells, high-speed conveyor sorters, and software-to-hardware power interfaces. You will collaborate directly with panel build technicians and project engineers in a zero-bureaucracy environment where your schematics translate directly into physical, operating machinery.
Requirements
- 5+ years of industrial electrical schematic design experience within a custom machine builder, robotics integrator, or material handling environment.
- High proficiency in specialized electrical design software (AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, E-Plan, or Sky-Plan).
- Deep understanding of real-world industrial power distribution, relay logic, sensor integration, safety circuits, and control panel design dynamics.
- Proven ability to manage multi-page drawing packages efficiently while maintaining flawless accuracy.
- A consistent career history demonstrating long-term dedication with prior employers.
- U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder residing within a comfortable commuting distance (~45 minutes) of the Greater Milwaukee area.
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with UL 508A industrial control panel standards and NEC code compliance.
- Experience creating, managing, and structuring structured Bills of Materials (BOMs) within enterprise ERP/MRP systems.
- Hands-on experience creating 3D control panel layouts and spatial wiring routes within SolidWorks Electrical or E-Plan Pro Panel.
Responsibilities
- Draft, revise, and finalize complete electrical schematics, power distribution systems, and control panel layouts for custom automation machinery.
- Produce multi-page drawing sets with an emphasis on accuracy, speed, and adherence to industrial electrical standards.
- Translate complex physical equipment layouts—such as robotic welding cells and high-speed sorters—into clean, functional electrical schematics.
- Work hand-in-hand with shop floor technicians and project engineers to ensure panel layouts align seamlessly with Bill of Materials (BOM) specs and physical wiring constraints.
- Apply practical electrical component knowledge to design control panels that are streamlined for real-world assembly and field serviceability.
