About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking an Electric Service Worker 1st Class for their Electric Distribution Operations department in Hampton, VA. This role requires a self-starter capable of working independently and driving. The position involves the repair and maintenance of electrical distribution lines, responding to power outages as a first responder, and collaborating with Regional Operations Centers. The role requires working alone approximately 90% of the time, adhering to a rotating shift schedule, and being available for callouts during outages and storm restoration events. Premium pay is available for applicable overtime hours. The starting rate for this position is $51.91 per hour. Candidates must pass a health and physical assessment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in overhead and underground electrical line work (A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)
  • Able to assess at a competency level 4 in the Dominion Lineman Development program in both overhead and underground energized line work
  • Must be able to lift 75lbs
  • Solid understanding of industrial electrical distribution systems and maintenance techniques
  • Understand and be competent in switching practices related to the electrical distribution industry
  • Knowledge of Safety processes and practices within the industrial electrical distribution industry
  • Strong communications skills verbal and written
  • Able to understand industry 3-way communication method
  • Self-starter with the ability to work alone 90% of the time while still being part of a local team
  • Able to meet and maintain applicable NERC/FERC requirements
  • Position requires the ability to obtain a valid class A CDL by the end of the 5th month of employment
  • Call out, overtime availability, and ability to work rotating shifts is required
  • Weight restrictions also apply, for safety reasons, must be able to maintain a weight below 290 pounds
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must pass a health and physical assessment
  • Successful candidates must take a pre-employment assessment

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintenance of both overhead and underground electrical distribution lines
  • Being the first responder to power outages
  • Working closely with the Regional Operations Centers within the Dominion service territory
  • Working alone 90% of the time

  • Locate and repair cable faults
  • Replace fuses with appropriate hot sticks
  • Perform minimal switching
  • Remove trees from overhead conductors
  • Replace streetlight and watchlight eyes and bulbs
