About The Position

The Electric Line Assistant is a beginning-level, individual-contributor classification represented by IBEW Local 1245 and subject to collective bargaining. The employee assists journey line workers or apprentice line workers/cable splicers with required work, performing semi-skilled tasks that may involve hand and portable power tools not requiring precision. Work includes assisting with overhead and underground line construction, maintenance, and other semi-skilled activities. The position is onsite in Hayward and may be a DOT-covered classification subject to random drug and alcohol screening. The stated starting wage rate is $35.82 per hour and is subject to collectively bargained wage rates and increases. Applicants living within 50 miles of the headquarter location receive preference.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Possess and maintain a California Class C Driver’s License by the first day of employment.
• Obtain a California Class A permit within 3 months of hire and a Class A Driver’s License within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds to waist level at least once a day.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts with extended hours.
• Ability to wear company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Nice To Haves

• Graduate of a PG&E PowerPathway Program.
• Graduate of the Cypress Mandela Construction Apprentice program or another physical trade program.

Responsibilities

• Drive and maneuver a truck at job sites in connection with maintenance, construction, and operation of overhead and underground electrical facilities.
• Assist with groundwork and traffic control, maintain tools and materials on the truck in good order, and drive all-terrain vehicles.
• Set and anchor poles and set and install overhead structures.
• Assist the crew with removing facilities, preparing cable for pulling, climbing ladders, working in trenches, framing poles, and building cross arms.
• Operate hydraulic equipment, including a tamper, ground rod driver, and spade, as well as a line truck, digger derrick, crane, and forklift.
• Use a computer as needed to complete field clerical duties.
