About The Position

Xcel Energy anticipates hiring a Groundman 1st Year at its Sterling Service Center in Sterling, Colorado. The role works on electric distribution line circuits, including setting and removing poles and towers and installing and removing conductors. The work also involves specialized line-construction equipment and vehicles, crane rigging, and helicopter support for construction. Some out-of-town travel to different Xcel Energy territories in Colorado is required. The employee must be able to respond to after-hours callouts, including evenings and weekends, and must live within 40 miles or 40 minutes of the Sterling Service Center.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Work experience operating construction equipment.
• Possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Pass the EEI Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) selection test.
• Demonstrate a high commitment to safety and good written and verbal communication skills.
• Be in excellent physical condition and able to handle a 90-pound jackhammer.
• Have highly developed mechanical ability.
• Be able to respond to after-hours callouts, including weekends and evenings.
• Live within 40 miles or 40 minutes of the Sterling Service Center.
• Be familiar with specialized line-construction equipment and vehicles.
• Have computer skills for learning and compliance training.
• Know how to use hand and power tools safely.
• Understand ropes and knots and how to use them.
• Understand and be familiar with DOT regulations.

Responsibilities

• Install and remove overhead and underground conductors.
• Perform rigging of various kinds for crane applications.
• Drive and operate numerous commercial vehicles.
• Use helicopters in construction work.
• Use specialized equipment such as ATVs and SNOW CATs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
