About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking individuals to join their team as Electric Ground Workers. This role offers a starting point for a career in the electrical distribution system, with opportunities for advancement in areas like Line-work, Substation, Design, or Dispatch. The position involves challenging outdoor work in various weather conditions and is considered heavy labor. The successful candidate will develop communication, technical, and mechanical abilities. A health and physical assessment must be passed. This position does not offer relocation assistance, and Dominion Energy cannot transfer or sponsor work visas.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age at the time of application
  • Must obtain a Class A CDL learner's permit within 1 month of employment and a CDL within 6 months of employment
  • Weight restriction of 290 pounds applies due to weight limits on equipment
  • Requires 'recommended' test results from Modern Hire Electric Ground Worker Virtual Job Tryout administered online
  • Requires 'recommended' results from pre-employment fitness physical assessment
  • Valid Driver's License
  • GED or HS diploma required
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to carry up to 60 pounds
  • Ability to work on ladders and hydraulic lifts
  • Ability to be on call and quickly respond for electrical restorations
  • Ability to learn how to operate construction equipment and use hand tools
  • Ability to promptly respond for emergency overtime callouts
  • Computer application aptitude
  • Ability to work within a physically demanding work environment
  • A strong driving record which will allow the candidate to obtain a commercial driver’s license by the end of the fifth month of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Class A or Class B CDL (Dominion will provide and pay for CDL training)
  • Class A CDL permit
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid or AED
  • Previous experience in working with mechanical or electrical concepts and applications
  • Background in the military
  • Background in construction or related work environments
  • Background in working outdoors

Responsibilities

  • Providing tools, materials, and supplies to journeyman linemen
  • Ensuring safety rules and regulations are observed on the worksite
  • Driving trucks and ensuring they are properly stocked and maintained
  • Preparing the equipment and worksite for the effective completion of assignments
  • Operating various types of equipment used in the construction process (diggers, aerial devices, etc.)
