About The Position

Challenge Preparatory Charter School (Challenge Prep) is seeking experienced Elective Teachers in Music, Science, and World Languages for the 26-27 school year. Since its founding in 2010, Challenge Prep has served over 1200 students from Kindergarten to 12th grade across three sites in Far Rockaway, Queens. The school's mission is to prepare students for academic excellence, mastery of NY State Learning Standards, and career aspirations. Challenge fosters intellectual, aesthetic, social, emotional, and ethical development, preparing students to be responsible 21st-century citizens. The school offers a rigorous instructional program with a focus on social-emotional learning, authentic field experiences, career counseling, and college coursework. Collaboration among staff across all sites is expected to support all scholars.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Teach students in content area classes to help them reach their full potential by focusing on individual aspirations and strengths.
• Plan for students of all ability levels, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities, to achieve academic mastery.
• Participate in after-school and/or Saturday tutoring, sports, enrichment, arts, and family programs.
• Participate in in-house committees of special programs.
• Engage in professional development such as inquiry work, intervisitations, common planning, and collaborative conversation.
• Collaborate with colleagues to write unit plans and interim assessments.
• Share teaching strategies, visit peer classrooms, and analyze student data.
• Develop best practice pedagogy that supports literacy and critical thinking skills across all subject areas.
• Employ a variety of collaborative team-teaching models for ELL students and special needs students.
• Apply data gathered through formative and summative assessments to guide instructional planning.
• Develop an individual growth plan, which includes professional goals and objectives in collaboration with the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
• Utilize technology, including a parent/student portal and school website, to provide regular written updates and/or grades.
