About The Position

Pottawatomie County is hiring one (1) seasonal / temporary election worker. From 7/6/26 to 8/13/26 this position will work approximately 10am-3pm daily. From 10/5/26 to 11/12/26 this position will work approximately 10am-3pm daily. The week of elections, this position will work approximately 40-hours. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Pottawatomie County Clerk and Election Supervisor, the Temporary Election Worker is a temporary, non-exempt position under FLSA. They perform a variety of clerical, recordkeeping, customer service, and election tasks to assist with the smooth operation of the organization.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is preferred.
  • One year of similar or related experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer data entry using Microsoft Office programs necessary.
  • The employee must have a thorough knowledge of computer software, and a working knowledge of mathematics, bookkeeping and elections.
  • The employee must have excellent interpersonal, bookkeeping, office practices, and organizational and oral communication skills.
  • The position requires the ability to read, comprehend, and write neatly and legibly.
  • The position requires the ability to read, comprehend and write.
  • The position makes decisions about locating requested information in an efficient and prompt manner for the general public and county offices.
  • The work involves the performance of specific routine operations that include a few separate tasks or procedures.
  • Works independently with occasional supervision from the Pottawatomie County Clerk & Election Supervisor, with no supervisory duties.
  • Attitude is very important; the employee shall maintain a good working and relations attitude with all contacts.
  • Daily contact with the general public, co-workers, supervisory personnel and elected or appointed officials is expected.
  • An offer for employment for this position is contingent upon the applicant passing pre-employment background checks which may include, but are not necessarily limited to: Drug Screening, Driving Record, Criminal History, Physical Capacity, and/or Skills Testing.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and directs clients and visitors.
  • Provides courteous & professional service for internal and external customers.
  • Process advance and early voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications.
  • Assisting with returned ballots and verifying voter signatures.
  • Filing and scanning of election documents.
  • In conjunction with the Election Supervisor, assist with elections, election training and election abstracts.
  • Answers phone calls.
  • Receives, records, and distributes packages and mail.
  • Copies, collates, and otherwise prepares reports for mailings, meetings, and other correspondence.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
