About The Position

The City of New Westminster, a central hub in the Metro Vancouver area serving over 92,000 residents, is seeking Election Officials for Advance Poll and General Polls. These roles include Poll Clerks, Machine Attendants, Greeters, Assistant Presiding Election Officials, and Presiding Election Officials. The City of New Westminster is known for its rich history, thriving economy, and diverse population, supported by dedicated employees. The Elections Office is committed to providing excellent service and is looking for individuals who can contribute to a successful election process.

Requirements

Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
Ability to work in a busy environment.
Ability to follow specific rules and legislated procedures.
Good computer and typing skills on a laptop.
Commitment to good service to the public.
Availability to work non-standard hours including evenings and weekends.
Ability to spend long periods of time standing/walking during an up to 14-hour working day.
Availability to work on the General Election Day (October 17, 2026).
Availability to work at least one Advance Poll shift (October 7, 8, 9, 10 & 14, 2026).
Availability to attend a paid training class (between September 29 and October 8, 2026).

Nice To Haves

Previous election experience supporting the City of New Westminster elections.
Previous election experience in other municipal, provincial, or federal elections.
Familiarity with voting technology/software and electronic ballot tabulators.

Responsibilities

Work on General Election Day (approximately 14 hours).
Work at least one Advance Poll shift (7-14 hours).
Attend a paid training class.
Follow specific rules and legislated procedures.
Provide good service to the public.
Spend long periods of time standing/walking during an up to 14-hour working day.
