About The Position

Performs work serving on the county absentee ballot boards and performs administrative or clerical duties related to absentee ballots and elections. Work is performed according to established guidelines, state laws and regulations, and general instructions from the department. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer/Auditor-Treasurer and/or Elections Coordinator. This is a temporary, part-time, non-union, non-benefit eligible position. Employment shall not exceed 67 working days in a calendar year. This position will work from approximately the end of June 2026 through mid-August 2026, and/or from approximately mid-September 2026 through mid-November 2026. This position requires applicants to declare their major political party affiliation, if they are affiliated with a major political party in Minnesota. If applicants are not affiliated with a major political party, they must state they are unaffiliated with a major political party. However, the ability of applicants to serve without major political party affiliation will be limited due to party balance requirement in conducting position duties.

Requirements

  • State of Minnesota eligibility requirements to serve as an Election Judge.
  • Declaration of major party affiliation if individual is affiliated with a major political party in Minnesota OR a statement the individual is unaffiliated with a major political party in Minnesota.
  • Currently certified as an Election Judge or able to become certified as an Election Judge.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota election processes, laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of data privacy practices, procedures, and ability to maintain confidential documents and information.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and communicate oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to complete assigned duties with accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to read a manual and apply its procedures to a work situation.
  • Ability to operate and maintain election equipment.
  • Ability to read a manual and apply its procedures to assigned work.

  • Ability to understand, follow, and communicate written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, county officials and department heads, employees, other governmental employees, election service providers, Election Judges, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Serves on the county absentee ballot boards.
  • Examines absentee ballot return envelopes and determines whether the envelope meets the acceptance criteria in accordance with Minnesota statutes, rules, and guidelines.
  • Processes absentee ballots including opening the return envelopes and counting the absentee ballots.
  • Performs other related Election Judge duties as assigned or as needed.
