About The Position

The English Language Development (ELD) Teacher provides specialized instruction and support for Multilingual Learners (MLs) to develop English language proficiency while ensuring equitable access to grade-level curriculum. Working collaboratively with classroom teachers, counselors, administrators, and families, the ELD teacher supports students' academic achievement, language development, acquisition, and successful integration into the school community. The ELD Teacher implements evidence-based instructional practices aligned with WIDA English Language Development Standards, Utah Core Standards, and Alpine School District expectations to help students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Requirements

  • Current Utah Professional Educator License- Secondary Education
  • Endorsements: English Second language (ESL)

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality English language development instruction for multilingual learners.
  • Plan and deliver standards-based lessons aligned to WIDA English Language Development Standards and Utah Core Standards.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet students' English proficiency levels and academic needs.
  • Support students in developing academic language across all content areas.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction using assessment data.
  • Administer and support required language proficiency assessments, including WIDA ACCESS.
  • Monitor student language growth and academic progress.
  • Maintain accurate student records and documentation.
  • Assist in determining student placement, services, and program eligibility.
  • Utilize Ellevation for monitoring student needs and supports, creating goals, and building capacity in sheltered instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement instructional strategies that support multilingual learners in all classrooms.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), student support teams, and ML task force.
  • Consult with teachers regarding language acquisition, differentiation, accommodations, and culturally responsive instructional practices.
  • Work closely with families, counselors, administrators, teachers/staff, and intervention teams to support student success.
  • Work with district personnel and attend district meetings/trainings that support ML students when appropriate.
  • Build positive relationships with multilingual students and their families.
  • Communicate with families regarding student progress, language development, assessments, and educational opportunities.
  • Support family engagement by providing information about school resources and programs.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and district requirements for multilingual learner services.
  • Develop and maintain Individual Language Development Plans (ILDPs) and required documentation when appropriate.
  • Assist with required reporting, data collection, and program monitoring.
  • Support school implementation of district multilingual learner initiatives.
  • Participate in ongoing professional learning related to language acquisition, culturally responsive teaching, and instructional best practices.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.
  • Contribute positively to the culture, mission, and goals of Mountain View High School and Alpine School District.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
