About The Position

Purpose Financial is looking for a talented, result-oriented, and innovative Elastic Observability Engineer to join the team! This position reports to the Systems Integration Manager and is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise monitoring, logging, and alerting platforms to ensure the reliability and availability of business-critical systems. This role will focus on proactive monitoring, incident prevention, and operational visibility using the Elastic Stack and related observability tools. The engineer will work closely with infrastructure, application, and operations teams to build intelligent alerting and monitoring frameworks that enable early detection of issues before they impact customers or internal operations. This role directly supports high-availability services including Point-of-Sale, Collections, Treasury, and Credit Risk platforms, ensuring maximum uptime and rapid issue detection.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent professional experience in analytics, statistics, and distributed systems.
  • 5+ years working with the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) or similar observability platforms.
  • 5+ years designing and managing monitoring and alerting systems preferably in a financial services environment.
  • Strong understanding of log aggregation, metrics, and distributed system monitoring.
  • 5+ years working in hybrid Linux/Windows/AWS environments.
  • Strong experience using the Elastic agent with integrations.
  • Understanding of networking, system performance, and application monitoring concepts.
  • Experience integrating and monitoring containerized environments in the Elastic Stack
  • Experience with Kubernetes in Rancher with the ability to configure, deploy and maintain the Elastic Agent or OTEL into the clusters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to create detailed technical documentation

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain monitoring and alerting solutions using the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Beats, Elastic Agent, APM, OTEL).
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations that provide real-time operational visibility into enterprise systems.
  • Configure proactive alerting rules to detect anomalies, performance degradation, and system failures.
  • Establish monitoring standards across applications, infrastructure, and cloud services.
  • Identify patterns and trends in system telemetry to prevent outages before they occur.
  • Tune alert thresholds to reduce alert fatigue while ensuring timely notification of critical events.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and post-incident reviews.
  • Continuously improve monitoring coverage for critical systems.
  • Administer and maintain Elastic Cloud clusters and associated infrastructure.
  • Optimize indexing, storage, and performance of Elastic deployments.
  • Manage log ingestion pipelines and data lifecycle policies.
  • Implement security and access controls for monitoring platforms.
  • Support stability of the Elastic Stack, including after-hours work as needed.
  • Work with DevOps, SRE, application teams, and infrastructure engineers to integrate observability into new systems.
  • Assist development teams in instrumenting applications for metrics and logging.
  • Support monitoring for hybrid environments including on-premises infrastructure and cloud platforms.
  • Mentor and train team members as well as developers when needed.
  • Attend engineering, customer, and business meetings as required.
  • Automate monitoring configuration and alerting workflows.
  • Implement Infrastructure-as-Code where possible for monitoring deployments.
  • Evaluate new observability technologies and enhancements.
  • Maintain technical documentation and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
