About The Position

The ELAR Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing curriculum plans, preparing lessons that accommodate individual student differences, and presenting subject matter according to established guidelines. The role involves employing various instructional techniques, cooperating with staff on instructional goals, and planning assignments for teacher aides and volunteers. The teacher will utilize technology in the classroom, assist students with study habits, and regularly assess student accomplishments, providing progress reports. Responsibilities also include assuming responsibility for extracurricular activities, serving as a positive role model, and creating a conducive classroom environment. The teacher must administer discipline according to board policies, take precautions to protect students and resources, and assist in selecting instructional materials. Maintaining open communication with students and parents, professional relationships with colleagues, and using acceptable communication skills are essential. Participation in staff development, demonstrating professional improvement, and maintaining ethical and responsible behavior are expected. The teacher must stay informed of and comply with all state, district, and school regulations and policies, and compile, maintain, and file all required documents. Attendance and participation in faculty meetings and serving on staff committees are also required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement for ELAR.
  • Knowledge of Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards and curriculum guidelines.
  • Proficiency in using educational technologies.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Education or related field.
  • Experience teaching ELAR at the specified grade level.
  • Experience with differentiated instruction.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, campus policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).
  • Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process.
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
  • Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies, campus policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members.
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in the district staff development program.
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
