About The Position

Colorado Springs School District 11 is seeking an ELA Teacher for the Goal Academy program at Jack Swigert Middle School. This full-time, 1.0 FTE position reports to the Principal and is part of the 2025-2026 Teacher/SSP Salary Schedule. The role is responsible for supporting students who need extra academic and motivational help to meet grade-level expectations and develop skills for long-term success. The teacher will work directly with students, especially those performing below grade level in ELA or Math, to improve executive functioning, goal setting, motivation, and engagement. Students in this program remain rostered to their previous school with the aim of returning once skills are mastered and academic progress is maintained. The program emphasizes team-building, executive functioning, resiliency, career interests, goal-setting, time management, and academic success. Teachers will typically have social-emotional learning, 100-minute blocks for ELA or Math instruction (Tier I and II), an exploratory class, and will be the teacher of record for online science and social studies courses. They will work closely with a small team interacting with all students.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated record of improving outcomes for students who require additional academic or behavioral support, including students served in Title I settings, at-risk youth populations, or similar environments.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with students while implementing structured supports that promote organization, persistence, and academic growth.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License appropriate for assigned subject/grade level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional practices, assessment, and classroom management.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with secondary students is preferred.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Prior K-12 teaching experience.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish or other district-identified languages).
  • Additional background or experiences aligned to student intervention, coaching, mentoring, or related student support work are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and Deliver Instruction: Design and implement engaging, standards-based lessons aligned with Colorado Academic Standards and District 11’s instructional vision.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technologies, and resources to promote student engagement, critical thinking, and creativity.
  • Differentiate Instruction: Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Provide appropriate interventions and supports to ensure all students have equitable access to learning opportunities.
  • Assess and Monitor Student Learning: Use multiple assessment tools and data sources to evaluate student progress and inform instruction.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records, grades, and documentation in accordance with district policies.
  • Create and Maintain a Positive Learning Environment: Establish and maintain a classroom culture that fosters respect, collaboration, and high academic expectations.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate and Communicate Effectively: Work collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, and support staff as part of professional learning communities.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and caregivers to share progress, celebrate success, and address challenges.

Benefits

  • 2025-2026 Teacher/SSP Salary Schedule
  • Compensation will be provided for required summer training.
  • Non-Recurring Pay: 6% of base salary (distributed as 3% on November paycheck and 3% on May paycheck).
  • Staffing Stability Incentive (for specific schools): Additional $5,000 split over two payments ($2,500 in November and $2,500 in May), prorated based on FTE.
  • Additional 10 extra days (beyond the District Calendar), paid at the per diem rate (5 days for USIP design and 5 days as “collaborative flex” days).
  • Additional 10% to Base Pay for specific Hard to Fill positions (OT, PT, School Nurses, Audiologists, & School Psychologists).
  • Additional 15% to Base Pay for specific Hard to Fill position(s) (SLP).
