The purpose of the ESL-Bilingual Teacher is to provide academic instruction to English Learners. S/he will develop and deliver lesson plans to groups and individual students utilizing academic development language standards.
Instructs English Learners for the purpose of improving their success in academics and skills
Develops lesson plans and delivers group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines.
Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans.
Implements LEARN’s English Learners program design to fulfill the requirements of support for English learners needing academic content areas including Reading, Writing, Math, and Science.
Obtains training for and assists with administration of language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student language proficiency (MODEL and/or W-APT and screenings, ACCESS test).
Maintains organized records of documentation regarding student achievement in core courses
Produces progress reports and report cards on regular and as-needed basis.
Utilizes evidence-based instructional strategies which support language learning in core content subjects.
Collaborates with English Learners coordinator and other staff to support students experiencing academic performance challenges related to English language learning.
Interprets student performance data and implements appropriate support structures
Communicates and confers effectively both orally and in written form with students, parents, colleagues and administration.
Uses audiovisual aids, computers, and or other interactive technology to supplement and support lessons.
Creates a classroom culture conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Keeps informed of and complies with school, Network, and state regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Schedules student groups.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Proof of Proficiency in both English and Spanish (for BILINGUAL certified teachers)
Valid Illinois ESL certification
Valid Illinois teaching certification
Bachelor's degree with experience working in a multicultural setting
Ability to make technically correct translations from English to Spanish and Spanish to English with speed and accuracy
Knowledge of evidence-based language acquisition strategies
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (i.e., Word, Power Point, Excel, etc.), internet research and database functionality
Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
