About The Position

The Family Resource Specialist performs case management, linkage to family support services and public benefits enrollment, and outreach services to nurture and strengthen at-risk families in Alameda County.  Special focus areas of this position include outreach to families with school- age children to gain access to health care, to help promote school readiness to families with young children, to identify families whose children are at-risk, and to provide appropriate clients with case management.

Requirements

  • Bilingual Spanish Required
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sensitive to the needs of the community with genuine desire to work with people in a compassionate and empathetic manner.
  • Ability to work with various public agencies, a culturally diverse staff and culturally diverse parents.
  • Ability to work independently and to exercise professional discretion and judgment.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language skills that include the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and express ideas clearly with individuals and before groups.
  • Cultural sensitivity.
  • Basic computer competency.
  • Ability to drive, with appropriate driver’s license and insurance; or access to a car.

Responsibilities

  • Provide family case management which involves assessment, follow up on assessments, family service plan development, referrals, consultations, access to services, and all other activities related to case management.
  • Assists families in gaining access to health care and/or other public benefits.
  • Reaches out to the most isolated families in the community to assist them to utilize available public institutions and services by providing bilingual and bicultural interpretation and translation.
  • Outreaches to immigrant and non-English speaking families to help understand cultural orientation and to develop cultural competence.
  • Inputs and maintains all required data for billing and client tracking purposes in a timely manner.
  • Provides community education presentations, parent workshops and parent training, when appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
