About The Position

The EKG Technician performs electrocardiogram (EKG) diagnostic testing to support timely evaluation and monitoring of patients’ cardiac status. Working under the direction of the EKG Manager or designated lead technician, this role prepares patients, operates EKG equipment, and ensures the accurate acquisition of cardiac tracings. The EKG Technician contributes to high-quality patient care by maintaining equipment readiness, supporting additional cardiology-related tasks as trained, and assisting clinical staff to promote safe and efficient workflows. This position supports a collaborative clinical environment and reinforces Trinity Health’s commitment to reliable, patient-centered diagnostic services.

  • The EKG Technician frequently stands, walks, and moves between patient rooms and diagnostic areas while performing testing procedures.
  • The role involves reaching, bending, and assisting patients with positioning, as well as handling EKG equipment and related supplies.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and clear communication skills are essential for accurate electrode placement, safe patient interaction, and proper operation of diagnostic equipment.
  • This position operates within hospital inpatient units, outpatient diagnostic areas, and other clinical settings where exposure to ill or medically fragile patients is common.
  • Work may involve contact with bodily fluids, electrical equipment, and cleaning agents, requiring adherence to infection-control practices, PPE requirements, and safety protocols.
  • The environment includes variable patient volumes, urgent testing needs, and frequent movement across care areas.

Responsibilities

  • Perform EKG diagnostic testing by properly preparing patients, placing leads, operating equipment, and obtaining clear, accurate tracings in accordance with established protocols.
  • Verify patient identity, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the testing process.
  • Maintain EKG equipment and supplies, reporting malfunctions or concerns to ensure operational readiness.
  • Document completed tests, label tracings accurately, and transmit results to appropriate clinical staff for review and interpretation.
  • Assist with patient care tasks, transport, or basic monitoring as cross-trained and directed by supervisory staff.
  • Follow infection-control procedures, privacy standards, and departmental workflows to support efficient and safe cardiac diagnostic services.
