As an integral part of the Cardiology Department, the EKG Tech performs non-invasive Cardiology diagnostic procedures. This role is responsible for performing technically adequate ECGs, collecting ECG data from ECG Machines Hospital wide, downloading data into the ECG Database, and ensuring proper billing of ECG studies. The technician will also assist in the transportation of patients, prepare ECGs for interpretation, and maintain and stock supplies on ECG carts. Additionally, the role involves reporting critical values to licensed caregivers, establishing and maintaining positive relationships with patients and healthcare team members, and ensuring a clean and safe environment. The EKG Tech will respond to STAT ECGs, participate in performance improvement projects, and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. Collaboration with the Cardiology Nurse and Supervisor is key to ensuring high-quality diagnostic studies. The technician will also report and document unusual or critical values to the Attending Cardiologist, prepare accurate charge documents, maintain patient records, and document studies in the Department Log Sheet. Proper equipment usage, cleaning of laboratory equipment, and maintaining a clean work area are also essential. The role requires sound judgment in relating physician orders to patient needs, consulting with supervisors and physicians when indicated, and performing other assigned tasks.
