About The Position

As an integral part of the Cardiology Department, the EKG Tech performs non-invasive Cardiology diagnostic procedures. This role involves performing technically adequate ECGs, collecting ECG data from ECG Machines hospital-wide, downloading data into the ECG Database, and ensuring proper billing of ECG studies. The technician will also assist in the transportation of patients to and from the Cardiology department, prepare ECGs for interpretation by cardiologists, and be responsible for the maintenance and stocking of supplies on ECG carts. Additionally, the role requires reporting critical values to a licensed caregiver and establishing courteous, cooperative, and service-oriented relationships with patients, the public, and other members of the healthcare team. The technician will ensure a clean and safe environment for patients and visitors, respond timely to STAT ECGs, and participate in department Performance Improvement projects. This position requires demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served. The EKG Tech works in conjunction with the Cardiology Nurse and Supervisor to ensure high-quality diagnostic studies, reports and documents unusual or critical values to the Attending Cardiologist, and prepares accurate charges documents. The role also involves maintaining accurate and meaningful patient records, documenting studies in the Department Log Sheet, maintaining department supply levels, using all equipment properly, performing proper cleaning of laboratory equipment (including high-level disinfection of TEE probes), maintaining a clean work area, and exercising sound judgment in relating physician orders to the patient's condition. Consultation with the Supervisor and Attending or Ordering Physician is expected when indicated, and other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor will be performed.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent
  • Completion of EKG certification.
  • 2 years Experience in a Hospital based Non-Invasive Cardiology Lab performing 12-lead ECG’s.
  • Ability to perform right-sided precordial leads (V4R, V5R, V6R) and posterior leads (V7, V8, V9).
  • Ability to perform serial 12-lead EKGs.
  • Ability to recognize EKG tracings appropriate for patients with pacemakers and AICD's and make appropriate technical settings accordingly.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • EKG Technician Certification From National Healthcareer Association or Certified Cardiographic Technician Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience performing Exercise and Chemical Stress Studies, and Holter and Event Monitors set up and review.

Benefits

  • The hourly rate range for this position is $23.92 - $40.66.
