About The Position

The incumbent is responsible for the performance of EKGs, treadmill stress tests and Holter monitors. Demonstrates competency in patient care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. May have access to or be required to distribute drugs, needles or syringes from storage locations, (such as large stock supplies, automated dispensing units and other carts) to/within patient care areas or treatment carts as defined by hospital policy/procedure. As an EKG Tech, you will perform diagnostic electrocardiograms (EKGs) to assess cardiac function. Every day you will prepare patients, explain procedures, and accurately operate EKG machines to record heart activity, ensuring comfort and high-quality readings. To be successful, you will demonstrate strong technical proficiency, meticulous data collection, and excellent patient communication, contributing to accurate cardiac diagnostics.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to effectively explain procedures to patients and follow established procedures.
  • General filing procedures and office skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of EKG procedures and equipment, basic cardiac and human body anatomy and physiology, basic interpretation of cardiac arrhythmias, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and performs twelve-lead EKGs with self identification and thorough instructions to patient, producing results of test according to department standards. Ensures proper placement of electrodes, with documentation of all pertinent patient information, paying special attention to accuracy of name, age, DOB and interpreting physician 95% to 98% of the time.
  • Prepares and performs treadmill and holter monitor testing with self identification and thorough instruction to patient. Ensures proper placement of electrodes with special emphasis to skin preparation to ensure quality test results. Assists physician during stress testing to provide patient safety and demonstrates the ability to respond effectively in the event of an emergent situation 95% to 98% of the time
  • Transcribes patient information to applicable forms maintaining accuracy, thoroughness and legibility. Copies, files and distributes records to appropriate areas with completion of clerical duties by the end of shift, with no more than 5 to 8 omissions per month. Edit and confirm tests in the Muse System with 95% accuracy
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary in the use of HOSPITAL INFORMATION SYSTEM (HIS). Duties include charge posting, crediting, acknowledging results to patients bill and ability to access patient information with an error rate of no more than 3-5 months.
  • Maintains proper care of equipment, including cleaning and restocking daily. Initiates request for equipment repair with Biomed department with notification to supervisor. Notifies proper person of any supply deficits within the department and disperses delivered supplies upon arrival to appropriate location with no more than 1 to 2 outages of unit of unit supplies per month.
  • Assists supervisor with department CQI program by participation in the collection and documentation of current statistics.
