About The Position

The EKG-EEG Tech's primary responsibility is performing EKGs on inpatient and outpatients throughout the hospital and the Emergency Department (ED). The Tech is also responsible for performing EEGs on both inpatients and outpatients for the Cardiopulmonary department. This role involves retrieving pertinent information from patient charts, documenting test details, communicating with ordering physicians, and managing EKG data within the Muse system. Additionally, the Tech ensures the stocking of oxygen tanks throughout the hospital and coordinates with service providers for facility issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (or Equivalent Certificate from an accredited program) or higher degree
  • AHA RQI within fourteen (14) calendar days of start date
  • EKG interpretation class within two (2) months of start date
  • Ability to work well with co-workers and customers
  • Strong motivational and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge and experience
  • Must be able to quickly assess and respond to emergency situations
  • Ability to explain procedures to patient and family members
  • Understanding and interpreting EEG/EKG’s

Responsibilities

  • Performing EKGs on inpatient and outpatients throughout the hospital and the Emergency Department (ED).
  • Performing EEGs on both inpatients and outpatients for the Cardiopulmonary department.
  • Setting up EEG/monitors for EMU patients, assisting C.N.A.’s and Nursing staff with monitoring and troubleshooting of EMU EEGs.
  • Retrieving pertinent information from the patients chart and transferring information into correct documentation area of patient’s test, i.e. medications, pertinent medical history, etc.
  • Contacting ordering physician for non-compliant patients, study completion, and any pertinent questions.
  • Performing EKGs and reporting critical EKG results, including completing Stat EKGs.
  • Documenting directly on the EKG and in the medical record: time, date, and physician receiving results.
  • Monitoring the Muse system database: editing, routing or transmitting unconfirmed EKGs, placing unconfirmed EKGs in the physician’s reading box, confirming all EKGs have an order attached, and emailing appropriate Cardiologist to ensure timely reading.
  • Troubleshooting the MUSE database and issues with CRMC’s IT department, and contacting GE’s customer service department when necessary.
  • Transmitting EKGs to appropriate outside facilities and troubleshooting any issues preventing transmission.
  • Attending 80% of department meetings.
  • Ensuring complete stocking of oxygen tanks throughout the hospital and confirming correct dispersal to proper areas hospital-wide.
  • Taking initiative to contact Airgas with any facility issues relating to their service.
