EHS Technician

Castelion Corporation•Torrance, CA

About The Position

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Technician provides hands-on field support to manufacturing, R&D, and test operations by carrying out the daily tasks that keep EHS programs running. The role reports directly to the EHS Manager and works with the EHS Specialist to share site coverage, field workload, and daily priorities. Most of the workday is spent on the production floor and in test areas. The Technician conducts inspections, services and stages safety equipment, handles hazardous materials and waste, and supports training delivery. The role executes established program requirements rather than developing them, escalates hazards to the EHS Manager, and reinforces safe work practices in a fast-paced, high-hazard environment. The Technician collaborates with area owners to reduce safety risks across multiple departments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and one of the following: an associate degree or technical certificate in occupational health and safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or a related technical field; completion of a recognized EHS certificate program, military safety technical training, or apprenticeship; or additional directly applicable hands-on EHS experience in lieu of formal post-secondary education.
  • One to three years of hands-on EHS, industrial hygiene, environmental, or safety support experience in manufacturing, research and development, construction, or an industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with basic OSHA and Cal-OSHA workplace safety requirements.
  • Ability to accurately complete inspection forms, logs, and recordkeeping documentation.
  • Comfort working on a production floor and in outdoor test environments, including standing, walking, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection.
  • Ability to meet U.S. export control requirements (ITAR or EAR).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or industrial hygiene.
  • Two to four years of EHS experience in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or another high-hazard industry.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30, DOT hazmat shipping, forklift, RCRA, or first aid/CPR certifications.
  • Experience managing hazardous waste accumulation areas under RCRA or California hazardous waste requirements.
  • Experience working in a startup or fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily and weekly walkthroughs of manufacturing, R&D, and test areas using approved checklists, and document findings.
  • Partner with the EHS team on hazard identification and control selection.
  • Coordinate daily and weekly site coverage with the EHS Specialist so inspections, training, open ticket items, and field support are divided without gaps or duplication.
  • Verify the condition and availability of PPE, lockout devices, eyewash and shower stations, fire extinguishers, and spill kits.
  • Triage and maintain hazardous waste accumulation areas, including satellite area upkeep and staging containers for scheduled waste shipments.
  • Assist employees with secondary container labeling and chemical storage segregation, and maintain chemical inventory to support hazard communication requirements.
  • Support on-site response actions when directed.
  • Coordinate EHS training logistics, including room and material setup, attendance tracking, and records filing.
