About The Position

Novelis is a global leader in aluminum recycling and rolling, providing sustainable aluminum solutions for aerospace, automotive, beverage packaging, and specialty markets. With headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, Novelis operates 32 facilities across 4 continents and employs approximately 13,000 people. The Davenport team is seeking an EHS Specialist to support environmental compliance, permitting, and other EHS functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or Safety Science or equivalent experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to contribute and participate in a team environment.
  • Ability to accomplish assigned tasks, provide feedback, construct plans, and demonstrate confidence in team leader and member roles.
  • Ability to recognize and analyze critical issues, identify and assign resources, and follow-up to task completion.
  • Ability to apply sampling and analysis protocol to provide accurate data and to explain and train others in sampling protocol.
  • Ability to learn, read, understand, and communicate EHS regulatory requirements.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with regulatory bodies such as EPA, DNR, and OSHA.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct staff support to Novelis, articulating regulatory impact on operations to upper management.
  • Investigate, recognize, report, and recommend corrective actions on safety and environmental compliance issues.
  • Perform or assure completion of all daily, weekly, monthly, or other periodic EHS inspections.
  • Compile information and prepare various EHS reports for timely submittal to local, state, and/or federal regulatory agencies to maintain operating permits.
  • Attend necessary training programs.
  • Develop and/or present EHS training materials to Davenport employees.
  • Audit and maintain systems to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental programs.
  • Monitor and educate local management on regulatory initiatives and proposed rules.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of environmental compliance (e.g., waste reduction, data collection, record keeping, reporting).
  • Maintain professional relationships with environmental regulatory authorities, escorting inspectors, responding to inquiries, and communicating inspection results.
  • Conduct behavior-based safety observations.
  • Make recommendations on corrective or preventative compliance actions based on data acquisition systems.
  • Provide guidance for operating procedures as directed by Manager.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering departments to support initiatives for reliable people, processes, and equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications.
