About The Position

The EHS Specialist — Fabrication is the dedicated EHS presence at Kratos's Fabrication facility, which is described as their highest-risk manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for the day-to-day execution of all EHS programs at the facility level. This includes hazard identification, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) development, chemical management, incident response, and ensuring EHS compliance. The position is hands-on and requires a significant presence on the production floor. The ideal candidate will possess technical depth in manufacturing hazards, independent judgment in risk ranking and hazard control, and the ability to communicate effectively with a bilingual workforce. The EHS Specialist reports to the EHS Manager and acts as the site-level EHS authority within the Fabrication facility.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related technical field — OR — Associate's degree plus minimum 3 years of directly relevant manufacturing EHS experience
Minimum 2–4 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
Demonstrated experience with welding, chemical handling, LOTO, and/or electrical safety hazard management
Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 General Industry standards
Ability to work independently on technical EHS tasks with limited direct supervision
Strong documentation skills — able to write clear JHAs, investigation reports, and inspection records

Nice To Haves

ASP (Associate Safety Professional) credential or active pursuit toward CSP
Experience with HazCom/GHS program management including SDS administration
Familiarity with ISO 45001 risk assessment requirements
Experience with OSHA recordkeeping and 300 log maintenance
Certified Laser Safety Officer
Bilingual fluency in both English and Spanish

Responsibilities

Conduct weekly facility walkthroughs at Fabrication, documenting findings, assigning corrective actions, and tracking them to closure.
Support the supervisor safety walk program by assisting supervisors with audit methods and reviewing findings.
Perform monthly safety equipment inspections, including fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, first aid kits, emergency exits, and spill kits.
Collect and report facility-level EHS data, such as near-misses, inspection counts, training completion status, and JHA status, to the EHS Manager for management reporting.
Manage day-to-day chemical program compliance at Fabrication, including storage inspections, SDS accessibility, container labeling, and secondary containment.
Route all new chemical requests to the EHS Manager for review and approval before introduction.
Maintain spill response supplies and ensure employees working with hazardous chemicals have completed required training.
Support SARA/Tier II reporting data collection for chemicals stored or used at Fabrication.
Manage visitor sign-in and safety orientation at assigned facilities.
Orient contractors working in Assembly and Warehouse areas, verifying PPE compliance and site safety briefing completion.
Track contractor orientation compliance and report to the EHS Manager.
Support regulated waste compliance at assigned facilities, monitoring accumulation areas, tracking disposal documentation, and escalating compliance concerns.
Assist with environmental data collection as directed.
Conduct field-based observations for all JHA development, grounding hazard identification in direct process observation.
Facilitate and maintain JHAs for Fabrication tasks, including welding (MIG/TIG/stick), robotic welding, LOTO, chemical handling, energized electrical work, and material handling.
Lead the annual JHA review cycle for all Fabrication tasks and trigger immediate reviews when processes, equipment, or conditions change.
Support the EHS Manager in risk ranking decisions and escalate critical-risk tasks for joint review.
Serve as the first responder for all Fabrication incidents, securing the scene, collecting witness statements, documenting physical evidence, and photographing the scene.
Draft incident investigation reports, including root cause analysis, for EHS Manager review.
Execute assigned Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) within established timeframes and validate their effectiveness at 30 days.
Track near-miss and hazard observation reports for the facility and follow up on all reports within 48 hours.
Own risk assessment documentation for all Fabrication processes in support of ISO 45001 implementation.
Maintain worker consultation and participation records for the Fabrication facility.
Support internal audit activities as directed by the EHS Manager.
Partner with the Training Department to ensure EHS-required training content is accurate, current, and compliant.
Deliver or co-deliver specialized EHS training directly or in coordination with the Training Department for topics like LOTO, HazCom, or chemical handling.
Ensure required EHS training is completed before employees begin independent operation in regulated tasks.
Track facility-level training completion for EHS-required courses and escalate gaps to the EHS Manager.
