EHS Specialist

Astro Shapes LLCStruthers, OH
Onsite

About The Position

The EHS Specialist provides day-to-day, hands-on environmental, health, and safety support at the plant level. This role is the front line of Astro Shapes' EHS program — conducting inspections, responding to incidents, supporting training, and maintaining compliance recordkeeping. Specialists report into one of two EHS Managers as part of a newly built management structure, with the goal of giving each specialist real coaching, coverage support, and a growth path that did not exist under the department's prior flat structure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on EHS experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 1–3+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or plant environment (entry-level candidates with strong safety coursework or internship experience may be considered).
  • Working familiarity with OSHA recordkeeping and general industry safety standards.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10/30 certification a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail for inspections, documentation, and recordkeeping accuracy.
  • Clear, approachable communicator able to work directly with hourly plant employees and supervisors.
  • Ability to prioritize and respond calmly when supporting an active incident.
  • Willingness to learn and grow into broader EHS responsibility as the department builds out its management layer.
  • Comfortable working both independently on the plant floor and as part of a coordinated team under a Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine safety and environmental inspections of assigned plant areas, identifying hazards and tracking corrective actions to closure.
  • Respond to incidents and near-misses, including initial investigation, documentation, and reporting to the assigned Manager.
  • Deliver or support required safety training for plant employees and maintain accurate training records.
  • Maintain EHS compliance documentation, including inspection logs, incident reports, and recordkeeping required under OSHA and applicable environmental regulations.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, including drills and response plans for assigned locations.
  • Partner with plant supervisors and hourly employees to promote day-to-day safe work practices.
  • Escalate complex, high-risk, or recurring issues to the assigned Manager, and support root-cause analysis on trending problems.
  • Provide coverage support for other plant locations or shifts as needed, particularly during team absences.
  • Assist with audits led by the Sr. EHS Manager, EHS Manager, or Environmental/Compliance Manager.
