About The Position

As an EHS Specialist – Environmental, you will be responsible for establishing, implementing, managing, and continuously improving the environment, health, and safety programs for our Richmond facility. This specialist will have broad knowledge of EHS regulatory compliance programs and EHS specialty areas including Environmental Engineering, Employee Health and Wellness, and Risk Management. You will be responsible for the implementation of Haleon’s Environmental strategic objectives, targets, and the management of related Environmental programs following all federal, state, and local environmental regulations; including all Haleon related environmental standards. These regulations apply to air, water, soil, waste, and sustainability requirements as they pertain to the site and associated properties. The primary goal is to prevent environmental exposures by protecting employees and the company through recommending strategies and solutions to minimize exposure to harmful elements and conditions. The EHS Specialist - Environmental will provide guidance in managing budgets to support outside services and operating expenses. There is also a need for this person to lead and support safety at the site as it relates to key areas such as, injury and illness prevention, incident investigation (RCA), risk assessments, regulatory compliance, internal auditing, EHS training, and health and wellbeing safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Environmental or related discipline.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the Environmental Field.
  • Experience in managing Environmental risks in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), Pharmaceutical or related high-hazard sector.
  • Knowledge of Safety and Environmental requirements and regulations.

  • Good relationship building and networking, to engage effectively with site personnel, senior management, EHS and Regional leads.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations as they apply to the protection of the environment including all company assets.
  • Established programmes to identify, assess and control environmental exposure risks to air, water, soil, and waste as it pertains to the site.
  • Develops strategies and programmes to manage exposures and control environmental hazards to meet applicable regulations and company standards.
  • Complete all required Environmental Regulatory and Haleon reporting requirements on time and follow-up immediately regarding any gaps in compliance.
  • Coordinate compliance with environmental regulations including liaison with regulatory agencies and inspectors.
  • Review and track investigations of injuries, illnesses, environmental releases, non-injury accidents and near-misses to ensure that they are effective, and that they identify and resolve root causes.
  • Lead investigations into serious adverse events.
  • Manage and carry out regular workplace inspections and audits to monitor compliance with regulatory requirements and company and site policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Assist with risk assessments, as applicable.
  • Establish site EHS policies, objectives, key performance indicators and targets that reflect local needs and alignment with Haleon’s short and long term EHS strategy.
  • Ensure local EHS SOPs effectively comply with Haleon’s overall EHS management system.
  • Design, conduct and oversee EH&S training.
  • Monitor and analyse EHS performance and initiate action to support or correct trends.
  • Establish programs to manage the site’s different EHS risks and impacts, coordinated within an overall EHS management system.
  • Review internal auditing systems, health and wellness initiatives, and identify potential EHS issues and participate in their resolution.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues at other Haleon sites in North America and around the world to ensure that EHS best practices and lessons from adverse events are shared effectively.
