Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
  • Any experience or exposure in an industrial environment (preferably chemical manufacturing) is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations in an industrial setting, preferably in chemicals.
  • Ability to stay current and apply regulations as well as ability to interpret written and oral instructions.
  • Good oral and written skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a multitude of people.
  • Behave in a professional manner and have a good understanding of proper email etiquette.
  • Must be able to lead and motivate others that are not direct subordinates.
  • Will require the ability to get employees to buy into programs and policies.
  • Possess strong organization and implementation skills.
  • Must be proactive in your approach to all issues in order to identify or eliminate potential problem areas.
  • Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Must be able to manage time in an efficient and effective manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of DOT, IATA, TSCA, RCRA and REACH is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with plant operations to serve as subject matter expert regarding interpretation of federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
  • Align corporate EHS objectives with business goals and strategies.
  • Manage hazardous waste onsite.
  • Primarily focus on environmental compliance throughout campus.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with federal, state, and local regulators e.g. OSHA, BWC, EPA.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement initiative regarding EHS policies and programs.
  • Help to develop, lead and manage several employee programs e.g. New Hire training, Emergency Action Plan, Fire Prevention, PPE, Hot Work, Hearing Conservation, Electrical Safety, LOTO, First Aid, Incident Reporting, Haz Comm, Confined Space, Respirator, Guarding, Eyewash, Flammable Storage among others.
  • Help coordinate ISO 14001.2015 efforts.
  • Develop and sustain systems to drive compliance, injury reduction, and environmental performance.
  • Coach and counsel all levels of employees in their EHS accountabilities.
  • Align strong industrial safety goals and implementation for all manufacturing sites on the Akron campus.
  • May be asked to work with affiliates in New Jersey and Texas on occasion.
  • Work closely with SESA’s Regulatory Engineer to learn proper execution/management of environmental programs e.g. Water (waste, storm); Waste (hazardous, non-hazardous); Air (internal respiratory, external emissions), among others.
  • Will perform walk through audits throughout the campus on a regular basis.
  • Will coordinate the procurement of safety supplies and PPE e.g. work boots, glasses and many more.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
