About The Position

Justrite Safety Group is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to oversee the EHS program at our Mattoon, IL operations. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. You will lead initiatives to reduce workplace hazards, manage regulatory compliance, and foster a culture of safety across all levels of the organization. This position plays a key role in driving continuous improvement in safety performance, environmental stewardship, and ensuring the well-being of our employees and operations. In this role, you will report directly to the Director of Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety, setting the stage for your career to soar! Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Safety/Environmental/Safety Science/Engineering or related area
  • 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of regional and local EHS compliance and regulatory requirements as they relate to the manufacturing and facility operations.
  • Travel required, up to 10%
  • Some knowledge of the Quality aspects in a manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer effective occupational health, safety, ergonomics and industrial hygiene programs, including health services functions and maintenance of related policy and procedures.
  • Maintain site-specific environmental permits (e.g. air stormwater, wastewater, etc) and reporting requirements.
  • Identify hazards and facilitate preventive actions with responsible parties to control hazards and identify additional safeguards needed throughout the site.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the factory floor to coach employees toward safer behavior and self-sufficient safety problem solving.
  • Manage hazardous waste material streams throughout the factory.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations, and conformance to internal and industry standards.
  • Deliver EHS training and maintain training records.
  • Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and help internal and external teams develop Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Responsible for installation, inspection, and mapping of emergency equipment and evacuation maps.
  • Establish target areas and long-range incident/accident prevention and cost control objectives including working with the HR Manager to reduce worker’s compensations costs.
  • Lead the Safety Committee and other employee involvement initiatives to achieve organizational safety goals.
  • Maintain a system for reporting, monitoring, and correcting safety problems. Review incident reports using these systems to help determine what corrective actions need taken to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Owns and administers the Workers’ Compensation program.
  • Maintain the OSHA 300 logs and required agency submittals
  • Serve as the interface for dealing with and solving issues with agencies such as OSHA, NIOSH, EPA, state regulatory groups etc. Participates in outside agency site inspections/audits and agency correspondence.
  • Investigate injuries to identify root cause and complete companywide Safety Alerts.
  • Ensure that all areas are inspected for any conditions that pose potential problems and make recommendations for major projects and procedures that implement and maintain safety measures
  • Maintain the Safety Library by surveying and keeping current on all relevant topics to ensure ongoing preparedness on topics related to safety improvement and hazard prevention.
  • Monitor and control industrial hygiene related to the long-term effects of factors such as chemical exposure, noise, lighting, heat, humidity, etc.
  • Conduct EHS orientation for new employees to ensure compliance to company EHS practices.
  • Assist with Quality related activities.
  • Responsible for any other project that may be assigned as needed.
